Notes:
Summary Latero-lateral choledochoduodenostomy is the most frequent biliodigestive anastomosis. It is technically easy, the mortality is low, and postoperative complications are almost negligible. It must be emphasized very strongly that choledochoduodenostomy is not a permanent substitute solution in the case of situations in the distal bile duct or at the papilla which can only be controlled with difficulty or not at all. It leaves the papillary stenosis with prepapillary stones unimproved and in addition causes deposition of indigestible food particles in the biliary tract, which in turn leads to cholangiophytiasis. Choledochoduodenostomy has a very narrow, circumscribed indication: inoperable carcinoma of the pancreas, of the papilla, or of the common bile duct.
