Summary For CO2 measurements in respiration air usually an infrared analyser (URASM) is used in a method of bypass-circuit. A constant volume of respiration air will be sucked off continuously and conducted to the analyser. Time of filling the URAS analyser with a constant gasmixture lasten longer than 0,3 sec. In newborn this method is not available, because time of alveolar exspiration lasten shorter than 0,2. The limitation of volume runs equally. Therefore a new method was to be developed. Only few milliliters at always the same time of respiration cycle are sucked into the infrared analyser and impuls for the pump is given from the respiration pressure. In most cases it will not be necessary to have the full CO2-line but only the CO2 content of alveolar and inspiration air. With the new fraction-method it is possible to control CO2 in respiration with URASM during newborn anaesthesia in independance of respiration rate and volume.
Notes:
