    Notes: Abstract Results of a search for high-spin isomers in W and Os nuclei withN=104–107 are presented. Targets of48Ca and48, 50Ti are bombarded with a pulsed136Xe beam, and delayed gamma-radiation is detected by an array of NaI- and Ge-detectors. Several new isomers, with spin values up to ∼22h, are found in178,180W and180, 182, 183Os. Markedly different decay patterns and hindrance factors are found in the Os isotopes as compared to the expectations based on theK-selection rule valid for axially symmetric nuclei. The findings are ascribed to the onset of triaxial distortions.

    Description / Table of Contents: The Heidelberg retina tomograph (HRT) is a new instrument to analyze the three-dimensional structure of the retina. It is based on confocal laser scanning technology. Scientific interest has so far focused on the follow-up of glaucomatous optic nerve head damage. As parameters such as cup depth and cup volume can be reproduced with a high degree of accuracy, this new instrument may prove to be an excellent tool to follow up swelling of the optic disk. Patients and Method: A total of 21 patients suffering from optic disk swelling of various etiologies were included in a pilot study. Measurements were taken at six different time points. The maximum optic disk elevation and the volume of swelling were evaluated. Visual acuity and the visual field were determined, and fundus photographs were taken. Results: A reduction in optic disk swelling over time may be demonstrated by both morphological parameters and correlates with improvement in fundus changes. The change in the volume of swelling is greater than the change in maximum disk elevation. The course of optic disk swelling differs between patients with anterior ischemic optic neuropathy and those with pseudotumor cerebri. No correlation was found between our measurements with the HRT and functional parameters (visual acuity and visual field). Conclusion: The HRT is a good tool for the follow-up of optic disk swelling, particularly optic disk elevation due to increased intracranial pressure.
    Notes: Der Heidelberg-Retina-Tomograph (HRT) ist ein neues Instrument zur Darstellung der dreidimensionalen Topographie des Augenhintergrunds, basierend auf dem Prinzip der konfokalen Laser-Scanning-Tomographie. Aufgrund der guten Reproduzierbarkeit topographischer Meßparameter im Rahmen der Glaukomdiagnostik erscheint er auch als zuverlässiges Verfahren zur Verlaufsdokumentation einer Papillenprominenz geeignet. Patienten und Methode: Es wurden mit dem Heidelberg-Retina-Tomographen 21 Patienten mit einer Papillenschwellung unterschiedlicher Genese im Verlauf dokumentiert. Die Papillenmorphologie wurde zu 6 Untersuchungszeitpunkten aufgezeichnet. Ausgewertet wurden die maximale Papillenprominenz sowie ihr Volumen. Als weitere Kontrollparameter dienten Visus, Perimetrie sowie Fundusfotografien. Ergebnisse: Die Abnahme der Papillenschwellung läßt sich anhand beider topographischer Meßparameter darstellen und korreliert mit dem klinischen Fundusbefund. Das Volumen der geschwollenen Papille zeigt im Vergleich zur maximalen Höhe der Papille im Mittel stärkere Veränderungen. Im frühen Krankheitsverlauf nimmt das Schwellungsvolumen bei Patienten mit anteriorer ischämischer Optikopathie zu, während es beim Pseudotumor cerebri rückläufig ist. Eine sichere Korrelation mit funktionellen Parametern (Visus, Gesichtsfeld) ergibt sich nicht. Schlußfolgerung: Der Heidelberg-Retina-Tomograph eignet sich zur objektiven Verlaufskontrolle von Papillenschwellungen unterschiedlicher Genese, insbesondere jedoch zur Dokumentation und Therapiekontrolle von Stauungspapillen im Rahmen eines Pseudotumor cerebri.

    Notes: Abstract Aγ-γ coincidence technique has been developed forg-factor measurements of short-lived nuclear states. The method involvesγ-detection in 4π geometry as well as transient magnetic fields and the recoil-distance technique. A first experiment was performed for the isotope160Yb produced in the reaction64Ni(100Mo, 4n) at 430 MeV beam energy. The valueg=− 0.23(31) of the 14+ yrast state, which is compatible with zero, establishes thevi 13/2 quasiparticle structure to be responsible for the first backbend. A meang-factor for low spin states around the 4+ state,g=+0.48(26) was also derived as well as lifetimes for yrast states up toI π=8+.

    Notes: Abstract Nucleon transfer accompanied by Coulomb excitation was studied in the system206Pb+232Th atE Lab=6.4 MeV/u. Particle-particle-gamma coincidence techniques were used to identify excited states of reaction products populated through inelastic scattering and nucleon transfer reactions. The mean excitation energy was measured by means of aγ-ray energy and multiplicity filter consisting of 6 NaI detectors. Large cross sections for one-neutron and two-neutron pick-up from232Th are observed. The impact-parameter dependence of the neutron transfer is analyzed in terms of semiclassical barrier penetration models. Using realistic neutron potentials with a diffuse surface, the experimental data are in accordance with the assumption of a “cold” transfer to states near the yrast line.
