Notes: Different metal salts have been tried as impregnating reagents for developing TLC separation schemes for some antihistamines on silica gel ‘G’ plates, using a new solvent system benzene + dimethyl formamide + acetic acid (30:10:7). Spots were visualized by spraying with a solution of Dragendroff's reagent.

Notes: Propoxur (Baygon, 2-isopropoxyphenyl N-methylcarbamate) is a carbamate pesticide commonly used against house insects. When the insecticide was administered intramuscularly in rats it was converted to a new metabolite which was found to be present in the serum, liver, kidney and brain 6 h after the administration of the pesticide. The metabolite was purified by high performance liquid to chromatography and comparison of the infrared spectra of Propoxur and the metabolite showed that a deamination reaction was responsible for the formation of the metabolite from the parent pesticide. The pesticide also induced haematological changes such as an increased level of total bilubrin, amylase and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase and decrease of cholinesterase activity, indicating damage of the liver and nervous system in rats.

Notes: The metabolic fate of fenitrothion, O,O-dimethyl-O-(3-methyl-4-nitro phenyl) phosphorothioate, was investigated in rat tissues during the first 24 hours following the intramusculer administration of the pesticide in the animal. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) of the pesticide and its metabolites formed in liver, kidney and brain showed the time-dependent sequential conversion of the pesticide into three major metabolites. These metabolites were separated and purified to homogeneity by HPLC and characterized by IR spectroscopy as O,O-dimethyl-O-)3-methyl-4-aminophenyl) phosphorothioate (metabolite I), O,O-dimethyl phosphorothioate (metabolite II), and O,O-dimethylphosphate (metabolite III). These results indicated reduction of the nitro group in fenitrothion aas the first step, followed by the hydrolytic cleavage of the P-O-aryl bond in metabolite I and the oxidative desulphurylation of metabolite II. Fenitrothion was found to induce ultrastructural changes in liver cells especially after 12 h exposure nuclear membrane was completely distorted, nuclear intactness was totally lost and smooth endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus were abnormally enlarged. In 24 h, however, the regeneration of the nuclear material was observed.

Description / Table of Contents: Latexaltmaterial enthält uaitativ hochwertiges Kohlenwasserstoffelastomeres, da nur geringfägig vernetzt ist.
Notes: Scrap latex products contain rubber hydrocarbon of very high quality, that is only slightly crosslinked. A novel economic technique for converting such latex waste into a processible material is developed. This paper reports the effect of adding this latex reclaim to natural rubber. It is shown that latex reclaim can replace raw natural rubber up to about 50 wt.-% without affecting mechanical properties.

Notes: Epoxy-imide resins have been obtained through the reaction of Araldite GY 250 (diglycidylether of bisphenol-A and epichlorohydrin; difunctional) and Araldite EPN 1138 (Novolac-epoxy resin; polyfunctional) with bis(carboxyphthalimide)s derived from 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone, 3,3′-diaminodiphenylsulfone, 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane and 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane and trimellitic anhydride. For each epoxy-imide resin system, epoxy equivalent to carboxy equivalent ratio has been optimised to obtain the maximum tensile lap shear adhesive strength on stainless steel substrates at room temperature. The lap shear strength at 100, 150, and 175°C has been determined for the optimum ratio. Araldite EPN-1138-based systems give the lap shear strength of 141-182 kg/cm2 at room temperature for the optimum compositions and retain about 84-100% of the lap shear strength at 150°C. Araldite GY-250-based systems have lap shear strength of 183-193 kg/cm2 and retain 76-84% of the lap shear strength at 150°C except for the one cured with bis (carboxyphthalimide) prepared from 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane, which retains only 17% of the lap shear strength. Among the systems studied, Araldite GY 250 cured with bis (carboxyphalimide) synthesized from 3,3′-diaminodiphenylsulfone appears to be the best, retaining 75% (138 kg/cm2) of the lap shear strength at 175°C.

Notes: Treatment of pyrimethamine with blood plasma in vitro yields a metabolite which is also produced when the drug is administered through intravenous injection in the rat. A thin layer liquid chromatographic method for quantitative and qualitative determination of pyrimethamine and its metabolite in plasma and biological tissues is described.
