    Notes: Abstract Viable cells of H2-producers (Bacillus licheniformis and a mixed microbial culture) were immobilized on brick dust and in calcium alginate beads. In batch culture, cells of the mixed culture in the free state yielded 8.2 l H2/mol glucose utilized, whereasB. licheniformis evolved 13.1 l H2. Immobilized cells, however, gave 4-fold more H2 than the free bacteria. Highest yields were from the cells immobilized on brick dust. High H2-production rates continued over two rounds of re-use of the immobilized cells.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung In dieser Arbeit wird das Problem eines unendlichen elastischen Streifens untersucht, mit einer symmetrisch angeordneten kreisförmigen Einlage, an der plötzlich eine physikalische Änderung aufgeprägt wird. Für den Fall, daß die geraden Begrenzungen des Streifens spannungsfrei sind, werden die elastischen Felder sowohl in der Einlage als auch im Streifen berechnet. Ausdrücke für das komplexe Potential und für die Spannungskomponenten werden in Form von unendlichen Integralen angegeben. Numerische Werte von Spannungen werden für einige Fälle berechnet.
    Notes: Abstract Present investigation analyzes the problem of an infinite elastic strip having a symmetrically situated circular inclusion which tends to undergo a spontaneous physical change. In the case when the straight edges of the strip are assumed traction free, the consequent elastic fields both in the inclusion and the strip are determined with the aid of complex variable technique. Expressions for complex potentials and stress components are derived in the form of infinite integrals. Numerical values of stress are computed in some cases of interest.

Die elastischen Felder im Fremdkörper und im Streifen werden mit der komplexen Methode bestimmt, und es werden für zwei Sätze komplexer Potentiale und für verschiedene Spannungskomponenten geschlossene Lösungen angegeben. Die Randspannungen werden berechnet und für verschiedene Fälle untersucht.
    Notes: Abstract This paper is concerned with the problem of a circular inclusion undergoing spontaneous dimensional changes in an infinite elastic strip with the straight edges free from displacements. Consequent elastic fields both in the inclusion and the surrounding strip are determined with the aid of complex variable technique. Closed form expressions for two sets of complex potentials and for various stress components are provided. Boundary stresses have been computed and their behaviour examined for varying situations.

    Notes: Summary DTA and TG were carried out on a number of sodium-containing copolyphosphates. The DTA curves were characteristic of long-chain polyphosphates and were similar in nature. All of them showed a sharp exothermic peak indicating crystallization temperature (T c ) followed by a sharp endothermic peak giving the value of melting temperature (T m ). TG curves showed weight loss occurring in two stages, the first one beginning at 50°C (loss of absorbed moisture) and the second one in the range 300-500°C (corresponding toT c ). The values ofT m andT c appeared to decrease with increase in molecular weight. This could be due to the presence of crystallizable comonomer units in the copolyphosphate glasses.T c andT m also appeared to increase with increase in the atomic weight of the cation other than sodium.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Кинетика окисления метанола двуокисью хлора была исследована при 35 °C. Реакция имеет первый порядок как по субстрату, так и по двуокиси хлора. Молекулярная двуокись хлора является принципиальным окислителем. Было изучено влияние различных факторов, напр. ионной силы, неорганических солей, D2O и температуры, на начальную скорость. Были рассчитаны параметры активации и предлагается механизм, вклющий перенос гидрида.
    Notes: Abstract The kinetics of oxidation of methanol by chlorine dioxide has been investigated at 35 °C. The reaction is first order with respect to both substrate and chlorine dioxide. Molecular chlorine dioxide is the principal oxidant. The influence of various factors, e.g. ionic strength, inorganic salts, D2O and temperature on the initial rate has been studied. The activation parameters have been calculated and a mechanism involving hydride abstraction has been suggested.
