A New Convenient [2.2]-Crown Ether Synthesis; Comparison of Some Detosylation MethodsA new method is described for the synthesis of the [2.2]-crown ether (1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane, 1) which consists in reaction of the 1,8-di-O-tosyl compound 9 with the corresponding 1,8-di-N-tosyl compound 6 and subsequent tosyl abstraction. The new procedure obviates the preparation of the 1,6-dicarboxylic acid 3 and of the chloride 4; the starting materials are readily accessible; the cyclisation reaction proceeds in concentrated solution without use of the high dilution principle; the cyclic tosyl compound 2 crystallises during the course of the reaction. - Different methods of detosylation (hydrolytic and reductive) have been tried with 4,7,10-Tritosyl-l-oxa-4,7,10-triazacyclododecane (10) for sake comparison.
Notes:
