Notizen: A model is presented in which damaged pores are distributed throughout a network of undamaged pores within a spherical particle. The differential equations are solved according to the numerical procedure of Haynes, Jr. (1975). The model is intended to simulate more highly skewed chromatographic response curves than the two-zone model recently proposed by Chou and Hegedus (1978).Pulse chromatographic measurements in fresh NaMgA zeolites using i-butane as a tracer which only enters the macropores yield response curves with relatively low skew, which are readily fitted by a system of equations accounting for diffusion in a monodisperse pore system. For hydrothermally treated zeolites effective diffusivities and Henry constants are considerably lower and the skew higher than in fresh samples.Curve fitting with the model proposed below is quite satisfactory, and the characteristic parameters determined are approximately constant at the flowrates studied. Application of the model should not be restricted to hydrothermally treated zeolites, but may be extended to catalysts or adsorbents with macroporous structures damaged by other forms of ageing.

Notizen: Abstract Under certain conditions polyethylene coatings can be peeled off from steel substrates together with a previously formed oxide scale. After a certain oxidizing treatment (ageing) and an ohmic contacting, the obtained PE/FeO x -compound foil serves as an excellent humidity sensor. The composition of the iron oxide layer of said sensor-active compound foil was analysed by Mössbauer spectroscopy. This layer was found to consist of hematite (ca 30%) and off-stoichiometric spinel Fe3−x O4 compounds (ca 70%). The content of the vacancies [1,2] nearly doubles with oxidizing treatment. This effect corresponds fairly to the conductivity and the sensor properties of the samples, respectively.

Notizen: Abstract We report progress on the microlithographic fabrication of Nb-Ta-Al-AlOx-Al structures designed for x-ray detection. These structures use bandgap engineering both for quasiparticle trapping to increase the collection efficiency and to prevent quasiparticle diffusion out through the leads. Non-standard tunnel junction geometries are used to reduce the magnetic field needed to suppress the Josephson current for stable biasing. The performance of these devices as alpha particle detectors is presented.

Notizen: The solubilization of silicates was investigated using kaolin and quartz sand as model substances. The mineral solubilization was studied in the concentration of solubilized Si and Al. The chemical leaching of the silicates was carried out using inorganic and organic acids as well as sodium hydroxide. The process was more effective in the alkine than in the acid pH range. In the acid medium, oxalic acid showed maximum acidity and a tendency to form complex structures, especially with aluminium, and was most effective in leaching. The microbiological influence on solubilization reactions was tested using a number of microorganisms among them acid, alkali and slime-forming species. The highest leaching activity was observed in the case of Thiobacillus thiooxidans, whereas the heterotrophic microorganisms (among them Bacillus mucilaginosus) did not exercise a sollubilizing effect on the silicates.X-ray phase analysis of leached kaolin samples did not show any differences from the non-leached mineral.
