Notes: Summary Multigrid methods are applied for solving algebraic systems of equations that occur to the numerical treatment of boundary integral equations of the first and second kind. These methods, originally formulated for partial differential equations of elliptic type, combine relaxation schemes and coarse grid corrections. The choice of the relaxation scheme is found to be essential to attain a fast convergent iterative process. Theoretical investigations show that the presented relaxation scheme provides a multigrid algorithm of which the rate of convergence increases with the dimension of the finest grid. This is illustrated for the calculation of potential flow around an aerofoil.

Notes: Summary As can be shown in skin and renal transplantations between siblings, the leucocyte groups of the HL-A system, together with the ABO blood-groups, have an undisputable effect on the length of time a transplant survives. Intensive research, particularly in the past one and a half years, has rapidly widened our knowledge of the HL-A system. The structure of the HL-A system has still to be outlined. The immense complexity and the unfortunately at present still incomplete determination of the HL-A groups makes an assessment of their effect on the length of survival of unrelated transplants very difficult. A very simple and always valid system of matching is proposed. Recent and relatively complete typed series reveal that even with transplants between unrelated subjects a significant correlation exists between the leucocyte-group-matching and the length of survival of the transplant. Prognostically favourable matching can only be achieved by international co-operation in organizing the exchange of organs on the lines of “Eurotransplant”. The working methods and results achieved by “Eurotransplant” are described.

Notes: Abstract The paper describes the application of boundary-integral-equation methods to solve two problems in acoustic and electromagnetic aerospace research. The first problem is concerned with the structural-acoustic analysis of solar arrays of satellites. This analysis involves the solution of a boundary-integral equation for determining the acoustic pressure jump across the solar panels. The solar panels are geometrically modelled as screens (open surfaces in three-dimensional space). The second problem is related to the radar cross section prediction of engine inlets of fighter aircraft. The prediction requires the calculation of the scattered electromagnetic field when the inlet is illuminated by a radar beam. Engine inlets are modelled as three-dimensional perfectly conducting cavity-like screens. The scattered electric field is obtained by the numerical solution of the Electric-Field Integral Equation.

Notes: Summary This paper deals with the time-dependent flow due to an infinite rotating disk. The Navier-Stokes equations are transformed by Von Kármán's similarity approach. The resulting equations have been studied both numerically and analytically for two cases: (1) the flow due to a disk whose angular velocity abruptly changes sign, and (2) the oscillating disk flow. Some numerical results are compared with the outcome of the analysis.

Notes: Summary In the present paper we discuss the regularity of the principal value of the potential due to a doublet distribution μ along the boundary S of a two-dimensional (2-D) open connected set. Assuming S to be a Lyapunov boundary and μ to be essentially bounded, we prove that the principal value in 2-D is more regular than the one in 3-D. This result is applied to the aerodynamics problem of calculation of potential flows around 2-D bodies.
