    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Mit dem Ziel einer Systematisierung eines Großteils der im Handel oder der klinischen Erprobung befindlichen Prothesentypen werden zunächst die wesentlichen konstruktiven Merkmale und Funktionen des natürlichen Kniegelenkes den realisierten Charakteristika der Prothesen gegenübergestellt. Diesen Untersuchungen werden die theoretischen Erkenntnisse der Getriebelehre zugrunde gelegt. Die systematische Aufstellung unterscheidet die künstlichen Kniegelenke anhand der als wesentlich gefundenen Merkmale.
    Notes: Summary The subject of this investigation is to spezify artificial knee joints. For this purpose the most important constructional peculiarities and functions of the natural knee joints are to be opposed to them of the artificial ones. This analysis is based on the kinematic and theory of construction. The systematy distinguishs the various artificial knee joints considering the characteristics that are thought to be substantial.

Um die wesentlichen Einflußgrößen dafür erfassen zu können, werden zunächst am natürlichen Kniegelenk die Forderungen an die Bewegungs- und Belastungssimulation abgeleitet. Diese und andere Forderungen allgemeiner Art dienen als Grundlage für die Konstruktion, deren Funktionsweise kurz beschrieben wird.
    Notes: Summary This Knee Joint Simulator serves to investigate the tribological behaviour of total knee prostheses. In order to register the most important influences upon it, it is necessary to derive first of all the requirements upon the simulation of the various movements and loads from the physiological knee joint. These and some other requirements which are of a common sort, serve as the basis of the construction, the function of which is to be described in the following passage.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die zunehmende Verwendung orthopädischer Implantate macht internationale Normungsarbeit mit den Zielen Vereinheitlichung und Sicherheit für den Patienten notwendig und sinnvoll. 1975 wurde ein ISO-Normentwurf für Knochenschrauben fertiggestellt. Zur Ermittlung von Prüfdaten wurden Torsionsbruchversuche an Knochenschrauben von fünf Herstellern durchgeführt. Bei vergleichbaren Schrauben wurden erhebliche Unterschiede festgestellt. Die Kontrolle der Normgerechtheit dieser Schrauben ergab teilweise starke Abweichungen vom Normprofil und verschiedene Härtewerte, was sich auf die Abdrehsicherheit der Schrauben auswirkt.
    Notes: Summary The increasing use of orthopaedic implants makes international efforts of standardization with their objectives unification and benefit of the patient necessary and sufficient. In 1975 an ISO-Draft for “bone-screws” has been finished. To get experimental data there was a test series of breaking bone-screws of five producers by torsional stress. Comparable screws showed considerable differences. The control of conformity to standards gave partially distinct differences to the standard profile and different hardness values, what affects to the screws' security of twisting off.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Das Kriech-und Hysteresis-Verhalten, die Nullpunktstabilität, Dehnfähigkeit und Reproduzierbarkeit des Klebstoffes Butylcyanoacrylat wurde im Hinblick auf seine Verwendbarkeit zur Applikation von Dehnungsmeßstreifen auf nativem Gewebe einer eingehenden Materialprüfung unterzogen. Die Ergebnisse weisen Butylcyanoacrylat als einen für die DMS-Applikation auf nativem Gewebe geeigneten Klebstoff aus. Wegen der hohen Anforderungen an die Applikationsbedingungen sind zur Prüfung von Werkstoffen die bereits erprobten DMS-Kleber vorteilhafter. Aufgrund seiner hervorragenden Klebeeigenschaften an biologischem Material stellt Butylcyanoacrylat jedoch derzeit die einzige Möglichkeit dar, Dehnungs meßstreifen unmittelbar auf nativem Gewebe zu applizieren. Dadurch werden in der Biomechanik neue Meßmöglichkeiten eröffnet.
    Notes: Summary Creep, hysteresis, stability, elongation capability and repeatability of butylcyanoacrylate as a proper adhesive for bonding strain gages to non-fixed tissues have been tested with good results. Due to its excellent bonding performance butylcyanoacrylate provides the only means for bonding electrical resistance foil strain gages to biological materials for the time being. This opens new aspects for strain measurements with strain gages in the biomechanical field.

Besondere Probleme ergeben sich vor allem aus den Reibungs- und Verschleißvorgängen. Da die Entwicklung auf diesem Gebiet sicherlich noch nicht abgeschlossen ist, wurde ein spezieller Gehsimulator entwickelt. Dieser ermöglicht die Untersuchung des Langzeitverhaltens der artikulierenden Prothesengleitoberflächen bei physiologischen Verhältnissen.
    Notes: Summary High standards of material, design and production are required for alloarthroplastic hip prostheses. Specific problems rise from friction and wear with regard to the fail-proof function and expectation of life. To obtain further information on the complex behaviour of artificial hip joints with close approximation to the human gait a new simulator was designed and built. Selection of a great variety of gait characteristics can readily be accomplished with the new system, which essentially comprises an electronic control device, a hydraulic converter including power supply, the cinetic testing jig and the measuring unit. The specimens are tested in a aqueous immersion of speudo-synovial-liquid or in bovine serum. Time reduction factors up to approx. 15 times normal walking speed can be obtained.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Zur Klärung vibrationsbedingter Wirbelsäulenbeschwerden bei Hubschrauberpiloten wurde tierexperimentell die muskuläre Dämpfung untersucht. Am Pirbright-Meerschweinchen wurden auf einem Schwingtisch Beschleunigungswerte einmal unter Abwehrspannung, im zweiten Versuch unter maximaler Relaxation der Muskulatur gemessen. Das verspannte Tier dämpfte die bei 5 Hz auftretenden Resonanzen nahezu vollständig. Beim relaxierten Tier ließ sich im gleichen Frequenzbereich eine eindeutige Resonanzkurve entwickeln. Hingegen wurden höherfrequente Vibrationen bis 15 Hz beim relaxierten Tier in zunehmendem Maße stärker gedämpft als unter muskulärer Abwehrspannung. Die Schutzfunktion einer nicht ermüdeten Stammesmuskulatur zur Abwehr besonders schlecht tolerierter Resonanzvibrationen wird diskutiert.
    Notes: Summary For the further clarification of helicopter pilot's spinal troubles caused by vibration the muscular absorption was examined with the help of animal experiments. On a swinging-table acceleration values were measured in Pirbright cavies; at first this was done under a defence reaction of the muscles, and in second experiment under maximum muscular relaxation. In the tense animal the resonance occurring at 5 Hz was almost completely absorbed, whereas in the relaxed animal a clear resonance—curve could be developed at 5 Hz. On the other hand vibration at a higher frequency up to 15 Hz were to an increasing extent better absorbed in the relaxed animal than in animal with a muscular defence reaction. For this reason the protective function of a not fatigued musculature for the defence of especially badly tolerated resonance vibrations is being discussed.
