Metal π Complexes of Benzene Derivatives, XXX. - η6-, μ2- (η6:η6)-, and μ3-(η6:η6:η6)-[23]Paracyclophane Complexes of Chromium. Preparation, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Redox BehaviorCocondensation of chromium atoms with [23]paracyclophane (2) afforded the bis(exo) complex bis(η6-[23]paracyclophane)-chromium(0) (9), endo coordination of the type (η12-2)Cr not being detected. By means of carbonyl substitution at Cr(CO)6, the Cr(CO)3 adducts 2[Cr(CO)3] (12), 2[Cr(CO)3]2 (13), and 2[Cr(CO)3]3 (14) were obtained. The signs and the magnitudes of the 1H NMR coordination shifts Δδ of protons in the periphery of 9 are traced back to their positions relative to the center of the diamagnetic ring current. 1H NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopic results for 12-14 suggest weak interanular interactions. - According to cyclic voltammetry, the redox processes 12⇌12+, 13⇌13+⇌132+ and 14⇌14+⇌142+⇌143+reversible at -40°C. The behavior of 13 and 14 approaches the limiting case of multiple electron transfer from molecules containing equivalent, non-interacting centers (Savéant-Bard-Anson model).
Notes:
