Summary It is pointed out that three rules and correlations, which apply to the winter temperature of Central Europe and which cannot be explained by chance, have been proved again in winter 1953/54. The fact that the winter as a whole and mainly January and February were colder than normal in Central Europe, though the first December decade was too warm in Germany by more than 2,5° C, is explained by the fact that the temperature anomaly during the early winter was not caused by a westerly situation but was connected with a southerly situation which, in winter, shows only a small tendency to recurrence. Also in USA, a rule has been recently confirmed which deducts the average winter temperature of New England from the general circulation in November.

Résumé L'exactitude de trois règles et corrélations concernant la température hivernale de l'Europe centrale et qui ne reposent pas sur des bases fortuites s'est confirmée pendant l'hiver 1953/54. Que dans l'ensemble cet hiver, et surtout le plein hiver, ait été anormalement froid, bien que la première décade de décembre ait été en Allemagne de plus de 2,5° trop chaude, s'explique par le fait que cette anomalie du début ne s'est pas produite par temps d'Ouest, mais bien par courant du Sud dont on sait qu'il ne tend guère à récidiver. Aux Etats-Unis également une règle qui permet, à partir de la circulation générale en novembre, de conclure quant à la température moyenne de l'hiver en Nouvelle-Angleterre s'est confirmée à nouveau.

Zusammenfassung Es wird gezeigt, da\ drei nicht mehr mit Zufall erklärbare Regeln und Korrelationen, die sich auf die Wintertemperatur Mitteleuropas beziehen, im Winter 1953/54 sich neuerdings bewährt haben. Daß der Winter als Ganzes und vor allem der Hochwinter in Mitteleuropa kälter als normal waren, obwohl die erste Dezemberdekade in Deutschland um mehr als 2,5°C zu warm war, wird damit erklärt, daß diese frühwinterliche Temperaturanomalie nicht im Rahmen einer Westlage auftrat, sondern mit einer Südlage verknüpft war, die im Winter nur eine geringe Wiederholungsneigung besitzt. Auch in USA. wurde eine Regel, die von der allgemeinen Zirkulation im November auf die mittlere Wintertemperatur in New-England zu schließen erlaubt, aufs neue bestätigt.
