Summary 1. Transformer oil subjected to a brief irradiation (dose 475 rad) ages more rapidly compared with unirradiated oil on prolonged contact with copper or copper oxide in the presence of air. 2. After fast neutron irradiation (dose 109 neutrons/cm2) and subsequent prolonged storage of turbine oil 22, and the same oil containing 5% additive (polyisobutylene), the viscosity and acid value are virtually unaltered. 3. Induced activity (beta-active P32 and S35) has been found in neutron-irradiated (Po-Be) turbine oil.
