Notes: Abstract The β-oxide ring of 3-alkyl-3-(N-morpholinomethyl)oxacyclobutanes is opened to give methiodides or hydrohalide salts, respectively, of 2-alkyl-2-(N-morpholinomethyl)-3-halopropanol when they are heated with methyl iodide in methanol under pressure or heated with hydrohalic acids. When two morpholinomethyl groups are present in the 3 position of the oxacyclobutane ring, it is not opened.

Notes: Summary 1. The relation was established between the characteristic viscosity of polymethacrylate (in benzene at 27°C) and the average molecular weight, determined by the osmometric method [η]=2.95·10−3·¯M n 0.52 The formula was found for the polymethacrylates with hydrocarbon radicals R from C7 to C12 and with average molecular weights from 3 · 103 to 3 · 104. 2. The molecular weight distribution was determined for two samples of a viscosity additive-polymethacrylate.

Notes: Summary 1. It has been established that polymethacrylate, when added to a naphthenic-paraffinic fraction of lubricating oil, has an effect on the oxidation of this fraction at 140–180°C. When the polymer is present, there is a more rapid accumulation of peroxides and products from the conversion of peroxides (alcohols, carbonyl compounds, and acids). 2. Polymers of higher molecular weight have a greater effect on the oxidation process and are subject to more severe breakdown.

Notes: Conclusions 1. It has been established that pyrazolidone derivatives are transformer oil oxidation inhibitors. The effectiveness of their action depends on molecular structure. The most active antioxidant additives proved to be derivatives containing phenyl radicals in the 1 or 5 positions. 2. It has been shown thatgb-hydrazinopropionic acid derivatives also display inhibiting action with respect to transformer oil 3. The corrosiveness of transformer oil with respect to copper, steel, and lead in the presence of these additives has been investigated. 4. It has been found that derivatives of pyrazolidone or ofβ-hydrazinopropionic acid effectively retard the oxidation of naphthenoparaffinic hydrocarbons.

Notes: Summary 1. A study has been made of the oxidation of industrial oil “12” and of a solution of polymethacrylate in it, and the effect of several new derivatives of morpholine containing two or three morpholine rings in the molecule. 2. It has been shown that complex esters of alcohols of the morpholine series with acetic, diphenyl acetic, and benzoic acids inhibit the oxidation of thickened oil and of base oil.

Notes: Conclusions 1. A study has been made of the thermal-oxidative breakdown of PMA when it is oxidized in hydrocarbon media. It has been shown that the thermal-oxidative breakdown of PMA is increased by elevated temperatures or prolonged times of experiment; the degree of breakdown also depends on the solvent composition. The PMA breaks down to the greatest extent in cetane, and to the least extent in decalin. In hydrocarbon solvents, PMA breakdown begins at lower temperatures (140 °C) and is more severed than is the case for the solid polymer, for which breakdown begins at about 175 °C. 2. Structurization of the PMA and precipitation of a cross-linked polymer from solution during hydrocarbon oxidation are phenomena that have been observed, proceeding in parallel with polymer breakdown. A relation has been shown between PMA cross-linking and the chemical composition of the solvent, the oxidation temperature, and the oxidation time.

Notes: Summary 1. Transformer oil subjected to a brief irradiation (dose 475 rad) ages more rapidly compared with unirradiated oil on prolonged contact with copper or copper oxide in the presence of air. 2. After fast neutron irradiation (dose 109 neutrons/cm2) and subsequent prolonged storage of turbine oil 22, and the same oil containing 5% additive (polyisobutylene), the viscosity and acid value are virtually unaltered. 3. Induced activity (beta-active P32 and S35) has been found in neutron-irradiated (Po-Be) turbine oil.

Notes: Conclusions 1. Esters of the cyclic butyral of trimethylolpropane and mixtures of C7-C9 or C10-C16 acids were synthesized. 2. According to their physicochemical properties, the esters obtained can be used as components of synthetic oils. 3. A thickened lubricating oil was obtained, consisting of esters synthesized on the basis of the cyclic butyral of trimethylolpropane, as viscous additive — the copolymer of methacrylate and vinylpyridine — and an oxidation inhibitor — p-hydroxydiphenylamine.
