Notes: Conclusions 1. A study has been made of the thermal-oxidative breakdown of PMA when it is oxidized in hydrocarbon media. It has been shown that the thermal-oxidative breakdown of PMA is increased by elevated temperatures or prolonged times of experiment; the degree of breakdown also depends on the solvent composition. The PMA breaks down to the greatest extent in cetane, and to the least extent in decalin. In hydrocarbon solvents, PMA breakdown begins at lower temperatures (140 °C) and is more severed than is the case for the solid polymer, for which breakdown begins at about 175 °C. 2. Structurization of the PMA and precipitation of a cross-linked polymer from solution during hydrocarbon oxidation are phenomena that have been observed, proceeding in parallel with polymer breakdown. A relation has been shown between PMA cross-linking and the chemical composition of the solvent, the oxidation temperature, and the oxidation time.
