Summary After incubation with adenosine, crythrocytes of obsolete ACD preserves can normalize their ATP concentration. However, in a subsequent transfusion, these cells show a reduction of their survival time. This is caused by a decrease in the hexokinase activity between the 28th and 30th day of storage and thus by the impossibility of utilizing glucose. The enzymes glycerinaldehyde phosphate-dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase are of no greater significance in this so-called storage damage. If the transfused erythrocytes are to remain in the receptor circulation for more than 48 hours, the addition of purine nucleosides to obsolete ACD preserves is of little use.

Zusammenfassung Erythrozyten aus überalterten ACD-Konserven sind in der Lage, nach Inkubation mit Adenosin ihre ATP-Konzentration zu normalisieren. Bei anschließender Transfusion dieser Zellen ist jedoch ihre Überlebenszeit herabgesetzt. Ursache hierfür ist eine Abnahme der Hexokinaseaktivität zwischen dem 28. und 30. Lagerungstag und damit das Unvermögen, Glucose zu verwerten. Den Enzymen Glycerinaldehydphosphat-Dehydrogenase und Glucose-6-phosphat-Dehydrogenase kommt bei dem sog. Lagerungsschaden keine größere Bedeutung zu. Der Zusatz von Purinnucleosiden ist bei überalterten ACD-Konserven dann wenig sinnvoll, wenn die transfundierten Erythrozyten länger als 48 Std. im Empfängerkreislauf verbleiben sollen.
