Summary This article describes some complexes of CuII with 5,7-dichloro-8-aminoquinoline(dcaq), 5,7-dibromo-8-aminoquinoline (dbaq) and 5,7-diiodo-8-aminoquinoline(diaq). The compounds are of stoichiometry Cu(NO3)2(ligand)2 and CuX2(ligand) (X=Cl, Br or SCN). I.r. spectra show the presence of ionic and bridging nitrate and NCS groups. In the compounds with Cl, i.r. bands corresponding to terminal and bridging Cl are observed. The electronic spectra are consistent with distorted octahedral geometry around the CuII. Magneticsu sceptibility measurements down to −196 °C show antiferromagnetic interactions in all the compounds. We propose polymeric structures with bridging NO3, SCN and halogen for all the complexes.
