    Notes: Abstract The electron density at the positron is a relevant quantity for characterizing a positron-electron correlated pair in matter, since both the intrinsic decay rates in triplet and singlet state and the fine structure interval depend on it. Information about this quantity is generally obtained through magnetic quenching experiments. In the present work we discuss other techniques, based on the lifetime as well as on three-gamma spectroscopy, which do not involve the Zeeman effect in positronium.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Lo stato orto del sistema positronio-simile, che è noto vivere in stati di Bloch nel quarzo cristallino, è stato individuato nello spettro temporale delle annichilazioni. La vita media e l'abbondanza sono τ3=0.49ns ns,I 3=0.13. Lo spegnimento magnetico di questo sistema è stato misurato e controntato con quello di altri sistemi Ps-simili in mezzi molecolari.
    Abstract: Резюме Во временном спектре аннигиляции определяется ортосостояние системы, подобной позитронию, которая в кристаллическом кварце находится в блоховских состояниях. Время жизни и распространенность этого состояния равны τ3=0.49ns нс иI 3=0.13. Измерена магнитная закалка этой системы, и полученный результат сравнивается с результатом для системы, подобной позитронию, в других молекулярных средах.
    Notes: Summary The ortho-state of the Ps-like system, which in crystalline quartz lives in Bloch states, has been detected in the time annihilation spectrum. Its lifetime and abundance are τ3=0.49ns,I 3=0.13. The magnetic quenching of this system has been measured and compared with that of Ps-like system living in other molecular media.

    Notes: Summary The positron spin relaxation in a longitudinal magnetic field was investigated in some solids where Ps formation occurs. The experimental results indicate that this relaxation manifests itself in those organic compounds where the positron can excite low-lying triplet states. The values of positron slowing-down time, obtained by adopting a schematic model, range from 13 to 28 ps.

    Notes: Summary Positron decay in liquid naphthalene and benzene was investigated through measurements of lifetimes and magnetic quenching. The obtained results when compared with those already known in solid phase suggest that positrons become bound in two different systems. The first has a lifetime τ3≈1 ns which is unaffected by the melting, while the second (τ4≈3 ns) arises above melting and behaves as a relaxed positronium.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto L'interazione tra atomo di positronio e molecole di ossigeno, in esano saturo d'aria, è stata studiata mediante misure di vita media dell'ortopositronio e mediante un esperimento di spegnimento magnetico. I risultati indicano chea) l'ossigeno abbassa, di un fattore 1.6, la densità elettronica nell'origine del sistema legato elettrone-positone;b) il positonio si lega in un complesso a vita media molto corta con una costantek q =5.7·10−11 cm3 s−1;c) le collisioni di scambio del positonio con gli elettroni dell' O2 determinano transizioni orto-para caratterizzati da una costante γq=2.5 · 10-11 cm3 s−1.
    Abstract: Реэюме Иэмерения времени жиэни и эксперимент по магнитной эакалке исполъ-зуются для исследования роли, которую играет молекула O2 при распалде Ps в тексане. Полученные рэзулътаты показывают:a) O2 уменъшает вероятностъ пе-рекрытия |φ(O)|2 для взаимодействующей позитрон-электонной пары в Ps в 1.6 раза;b) Ps может реагироватъ с молекулой O2, образуя короткоживыщее соединение с постояннойk q=5.7·10−11 см3 c−1 иc) Ps может испытыватъ овменные соударения с не спаренныни электронами молекулы O2 с постоянной γq=2.5 · 10-11 см3 c−1.
    Notes: Summary The role played by the O2 molecule in the decay of Ps in air-saturated hexane was investigated by measurements of lifetime and by an experiment of magnetic quenching. The results indicate thata) O2 reduces the overlap probability |φ(O)|2 of the interacting positron-electron pair in Ps by a factor 1.6,b) Ps may react with the O2 molecule forming a short-lived compound with a rate constantk q=5.7·10−11 cm3 s−1 andc) it may undergo exchange collisions with unpaired electrons of the O2 molecule with a rate constant γq=2.5 · 10-11 cm3 s−1.

    Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto La polarizzazione residua di spin,P, di positroni assorbiti in naftalene è stata misurata in funzione del campo magnetico longitudinale applicato. Il metodo di misura è fondato sul rendimento di formazione del positronio in stati di tripletto e singoletto. A campo nullo il valore diP è ridotto al 50% di quello iniziale e tende al 100% al crescere del campo. L’effetto osservato, del tutto assente in teflon, è forse interpretabile in termini di uno specifico comportamento di positroni in naftalene.
    Abstract: Резюме Измерется остаточная спиновая поляризацияP позитронов в нафталине в зависимости от величины продольного магнитного поля. Метод основан на измерении относительного выходаP s в триплетном и синглетном состоянии. При нулевом полеP уменьшается до 50% от начальной поляризации и увеличивается до 100% при увеличении приложенного поля до боляших значений. Этот эффект, который отсутствует в тефлоне, по-видимому, определяется особым поведением позитронов в нафталине.
    Notes: Summary The remaining spin polarizationP of positrons was measured in naphthalene against longitudinal magnetic-field strength. The measuring method was based on the relative yield of Ps in triplet and singlet state. In a zero fieldP is reduced to 50% of the initial polarization and approaches 100% upon increasing the applied field to larger values. This effect, which in teflon is quite absent, appears to be determined by the specific behaviour of positrons in naphthalene.
