    Description / Table of Contents: Dioxa-bicyclo[n.2.]alkenes: Preparation and ReactionsCyclobutenes condensed with acetal- or etherlike rings of different size were synthesized. The cis-configuration of the bicyclic compounds follows from the number and the properties of their crystalline ozonides. From two stereoisomeric tetrahydro-dicyclobutadioxines the syn-Isomer by irradiation gave a dioxa-bishomo-cubane.
    Notes: Cyclobutene mit angegliederten Acetal- und ätherringen verschiedener Gliederzahl wurden synthetisiert. Die cis-Verknüpfung der Ringe konnte an Hand der kristallisierten Ozonide bewiesen werden. Von zwei stereoisomeren Tetrahydro-dicyclobuta-dioxinen ergab die syn-Form bei der Belichtung ein Dioxa-bishomo-cuban.

Thermal RearrangementMain products of the thermal rearrangement of the title compounds are the three isomeric ethyl(tetramethyl)benzenes 4o, 4m, 4p in the approximate ratio 2:2:1. The isomerization is a radical chain reaction induced by peroxides in which a methyl radical moves from the C-6 position to the exo-methylene group. In the intermediate bicyclo[3.1.0]hexenyl radical, a rotation of the three membered ring around the five membered ring leads to a statistical distribution of five substituents. Tetramethylhomofulvene pyrolyzes exclusively to form pentamethylbenzene while hexamethylfulvene gives only isopropenyl(tetramethyl)cyclo-pentadiene.
    Notes: Als Hauptprodukte der thermischen Umlagerung der Titelsubstanzen bilden sich die drei isomeren Äthyl(tetramethyl)benzole 4o, 4m, 4p im annähernden Verhältnis 2:2:1. Es handelt sich um eine durch Peroxide induzierte Kettenreaktion, bei der ein Methylradikal von C-6 auf die exo-Methylengruppe übertragen wird. In dem intermediären Bicyclo[3.1.0]hexenyl-Radikal 11 führt die Wanderung des Dreirings um den Fünfring zu einer statistischen Verteilung von dessen Substituenten. Tetramethylhomofulven pyrolysiert nur zu Pentamethylbenzol, Hexamethylhomofulven nur zu Isopropenyl(pentamethyl)cyclopentadien.

    Notes: Die Titelsubstanz hat aufgrund von Deuterierungsversuchen die Konstitution 4 eines substituierten Cyclopentenozonids. Demnach ist die Ketogruppe der Seitenkette an der Bildung des Ozonidringes beteiligt. Der Trioxolanring des Primärozonids 2 wird regiospezifisch nur zum Zwischenprodukt 3a geöffnet.

    Description / Table of Contents: Isomerisation of Substituted Benzobicyclooctatrienes to Derivatives of VinylnaphthaleneThe benzobicyclooctatrienes 1a-c isomerises at 150° to form the vinylnaphthalenes 2a-c. The corresponding hydrocarbon 1d is stable under the same conditions. 1a-c have been prepared in a one step reaction from the halides 3a-c and phenylacetylene. The constitution of all compounds was established by spectral and chemical means. The stereospecific isomerisations are explained by a series of valence isomerisations and an allyl rearrangement.
    Notes: Die Benzo-bicyclo-octatrienderivate 1a-c isomerisieren sich bei 150° zu den Naphthalinderivaten 2a-c. Der entsprechende Kohlenwasserstoff 1d bleibt unter gleichen Bedingungen unverändert. Die Ausgangsverbindungen sind in einer Einstufenreaktion aus den Halogeniden 3a-c und Phenylacetylen zugänglich. Die Konstitution der Ausgangs- und Endprodukte wird spektroskopisch und chemical gesichert. Der Mechanismus der stereospezifisch verlaufenden Reaktion wird mit einer Folge von Valenzisomerisierungen und einer Allylverschiebung zu erklären versucht.

    Description / Table of Contents: 2,3,5,6-Tetrabromo-1,4-dimethyl Dewar benzene1,2,3,4-Tetrabromo-3,4-dimethylcyclobut-l-ene (3), prepared in two ways, by elimination of halogen gave three isomeric tetrabromo-tetramethyl-tricyclo[4,2,0,02, 5]octadienes. By photolysis the ozonide 9 of one of the isomers is degradated to the title compound 10, which rearranges at 90° to tetrabromo-p-xylene (11) with a half life time of about two hours.
    Notes: 1.2.3.4-Tetrabrom-3.4-dimethyl-cyclobuten-(l) (3), auf zwei Wegen gewonnen, ergab bei der Enthalogenierung drei isomere Tetrabrom-tetramethyl-tricyclo[4.2.0.02.5]octadiene. Das Ozonid 9 eines der -Isomeren lieferte beim photolytischen Story-Abbau die Titelsubstanz 10, die sich bei 90° mit ca. zwei Stunden Halbwertszeit zu Tetrabrom-p-xylol (11) isomerisierte.
