Notes: The title compound, [diacetylpyridine bis(S-methylisothiosemicarbazonato)]iodonickel(II), [Ni(C13H18N7S2)I], is the first example of a complex involving the 2N coordination of the isothiosemicarbazide moiety. 2,6-Diacetylpyridine bis(S-methylisothiosemicarbazone), as a potentially pentadentate ligand (N5), is coordinated as a tetradentate species, whereby one (deprotonated) isothiosemicarbazide moiety is coordinated in the usual way (1N4N), but the other (neutral) is bonded via the 2N atom only, the fourth ligator being the pyridine nitrogen. The difference in coordination mode of the isothiosemicarbazide moiety is reflected in the 1N—2N bond lengths of 1.359 (4) and 1.379 (3) Å in the deprotonated and undeprotonated moieties, respectively. The structure contains three fused chelate rings in a 5:5:6 arrangement. The six-membered ring has a non-planar conformation.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Durch die Reaktion in warmenDMF-Lösungen von Cu(II) Perchlorat, 5-Nitrosalicylaldehyd-S-methylisothiosemicarbazon (H2 L) und Piperidin (Pip) wurde ein paramagnetischer Komplex (μeff=2.19 B.M.)
Notes: Summary The reaction of warmDMF solutions of Cu(II) perchlorate, 5-nitrosalicylaldehyde S-methylisothiosemicarbazone (H2 L) and piperidine (Pip) yielded the paramagnetic (μeff=2.19 B.M.) Cu(L)Pip complex, whereL is the dianionic form of H2 L, formed as a result of deprotonation of the phenolic hydroxyl and NH2 group. Crystal data of the complex are: monoclinic P21,a=11.902(4),b=6.765(3),c=11.343(4)Å; β=112.92°,V=841.20(8)Å3,M=400.9,Z=2,d 0=1.60 gcm−3,d c =1.58 gcm−3,F(000)=424. The structure was refined to a residualR=0.047. The copper(II) ion is coordinated in a square-planar arrangement by the piperidine nitrogen and the NNO set of donor atoms ofL.

Notes: Summary The reaction of a warm ethanolic solution of CoII perchlorate or rodanide and NiII acetate with 2-furaldehydeS-methylisothiosemicarbazone (HL), yielded the complexes [Co(HL)2(H2O)](ClO4)2 (1), [Co(HL)3] [Co(NCS)4] (2) and NiL2, respectively. Both CoII complexes are high-spin, whereas the NiII complex is in lowspin state (diamagnetic). An x-ray analysis of (1) showed it to have atrans-trigonal bipyramidal configuration in which one coordination site in the equatorial plane is occupied by one H2O molecule. HL, a bidentate ligand, is coordinatedvia N(1) and N(4). The tris(ligand) cation in complex (2) has an octahedral configuration. Complex NiL2 has a square-planar configuration. The deep purple plate-like crystals of (1) are monoclinic with space group C2/c, having cell parameters:a=11.369(3),b=13.029(4),c=17.438(5) Å; β=103.39(2)o. The structure was solved by the heavy-atom method and refined by least-squares method to an R value of 0.060 for 1761 observed reflections.

Notes: Five series of blends were obtained by mixing five polyurethanes (PUR), based on poly-propyleneoxide, MDI, and butanediol, with polypropylene (PP). The structure of PUR was varied by varying soft segment length (MW = 1000 and 2000) and soft segment concentration (50, 60, and 70%). It has been shown that interaction between PUR and PP was better in the case of PUR with the polyol of MW = 1000. The addition of lower molecular weight PUR produced an easy flowing material in the molten state, comparable with the “control rheology PP.” The morphology of the blends changed with PUR concentration. At 30% PUR the dispersed phase tended to agglomerate in the form of long cylinders. Mechanical properties generally were affected by the change of morphology.

Notes: Interaction between polypropylene matrix and carbon black was examined by measuring physical, mechanical, and electrical properties. It has been shown that presence of carbon black influences the morphology and crystallinity of the matrix. Strong interaction was observed directly by electron microscopy and indirectly by the rise of the modulus of elasticity. The effect of carbon black on strength and physical properties of the composites is discussed. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: Toughening of polypropylene was carried out by adding two types of ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) having different ethylene content, and three commercial types of EPR containing high density polyethylene (PE). The concentration of EPR was varied from 0-30%. Globular morphology of the dispersed phase was observed at all concentrations. Average particle size of the dispersed phase (EPR) was about 2-4 μm with about 10% within the 0.5-1 μm range. Although most of the properties were not affected by the presence of polyethylene, high notched Izod impact strength was achieved only with samples containing PE. Melt flow rate, yield strength and modulus were found to decrease almost linearly with increasing elastomer concentration in the blend. Elongation at break was enhanced by the addition of EPR, particularly those containing PE. The contribution of PE to the properties was explained by the specific EPR/PE particle morphology (core-shell or interpenetrating) but the exact mechanism of toughening of PP with EPR in the presence of PE is not clear. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: Two series of segmented polyurethanes, one containing 50% soft segments and the other with 70% soft segments were synthesized. Chemical crosslinks were introduced through the hard segment in a controlled way. Chemical polyurethane networks were characterized by swelling. The effect of the degree of crosslinking on properties was examined. It was found that chemical crosslinks in the hard segment reduce the mobility of the soft phase and destroy the crystallinity of the hard phase, but they improve heat stability of the hard domains. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
