    Notes: Novel Heterocycles: Tetrazinodi(heteroarenes), Synthesis and StructureA series of 7 new symmetric tetrazinodi(heteroarenes) is obtained in a two-step synthesis by N-aminating heterocyclic compounds substituted with a leaving group and by treating the latter with an organic or inorganic base. The new compounds are characterized, and the postulated structures are confirmed by X-ray analysis of a representative example.

    Notes: Photoisomerization and Relaxation of Symmetrical Triazacarbocyanine Dyes in an Alcoholic Mixture at Low TemperatureThe partial photobleaching of a series of symmetrical triazacarbocyanine dyes with different heterocycles in EtOH/MeOH/i-PrOH at low temperature (110 to 250 K) was investigated by UV/VIS spectra. Kinetic data of the dark reaction of photobleached compounds are given. The effect of electron-donating or -accepting substituents, respectively, and of protonation of the photobleached compound on kinetic data and on UV/VIS spectra was studied. Products of photobleaching and mechanisms of the dark reaction are discussed.

    Notes: The ionization energies of four [1,2,4,5]tetrazinodi(heteroarenes) of C2h Symmetry have been measured by PE spectroscopy. It is found that the first ionization energy is very low (6.2 eV to 6.4 eV) and rather independent of the size and/or topology of the molecules. This is explained, by comparison with the results of a simple MO treatment, as being due to strong localization of the HOMO (of Au symmetry) on the [1,2,4,5]tetrazino moiety of the molecules. The PE-spectroscopic data are shown to be in agreement with the UV/VIS-and electrochemical-oxidation data published previously.
