The concentration dependence of the cloud points of dilute benzene solutions of polystyrenes with broad and narrow molecular distributions was determined via titration with methanol or isopropanol using visuell determination, colorimetry and light scattering. All methods gave a linear dependence of the volume fraction ϕFM of the non-solvent from the logarithm of the polymer concentration cp at the cloud point for three decades of cp if certain evaluation techniques are used. Light scattering was the most accurate, visuell observation the least accurate method. The slope coefficients k of the function ϕFM = f(log cp) depend linearly on 1/M0,6 for polystyrenes of narrow molecular weight distribution.

Die Konzentrationsabhängigkeit der Fällungspunkte verdünnter benzolischer Lösungen von Polystyrolen mit breiter und enger Molekulargewichtsverteilung bei der Titration mit Methanol bzw. Isopropanol bei 25°C wurde visuell, mit kolorischen Messungen und mit Lichtstreuungsmessungen untersucht. Mit bestimmten Auswertemethoden ergab sich für alle drei Methoden über drei Zehnerpotenzen der Polymerkonzentration eine lineare Beziehung zwischen dem Volumenbruch ϕFM des Fällungsmittels im Fällungspunkt und dem Logarithmus der Polymerkonzentration cp. Die visuelle Methode wies die größten, die Lichtstreuung die niedrigsten Fehler auf. Bei Polystyrolen mit enger Molekulargewichtsverteilung hing die Neigungskonstante k der Funktion ϕFM = f(log cp) linear von l/M0,6 ab.
