Notes: [Auszug] Quantum mechanical experiments in ring geometries have long fascinated physicists. Open rings connected to leads, for example, allow the observation of the Aharonov–Bohm effect, one of the best examples of quantum mechanical phase coherence. The phase coherence of electrons travelling ...

Notes: Antidot lattices were fabricated by atomic force lithography using local oxidation. High quality finite 20×20 lattices are demonstrated with periods of 300 nm. The low-temperature magnetoresistance shows well developed commensurability oscillations as well as a quenching of the Hall effect around zero magnetic field. In addition, we find B-periodic oscillations superimposed on the classical commensurability peaks at temperatures as high as 1.7 K. These observations indicate the high electronic quality of our samples. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A single-electron transistor has been realized in a Ga[Al]As heterostructure by oxidizing lines in the GaAs cap layer with an atomic force microscope. The oxide lines define the boundaries of the quantum dot, the in-plane gate electrodes, and the contacts of the dot to source and drain. Both the number of electrons in the dot as well as its coupling to the leads can be tuned with an additional, homogeneous top gate electrode. Pronounced Coulomb blockade oscillations are observed as a function of voltages applied to different gates. We find that, for positive top-gate voltages, the lithographic pattern is transferred with high accuracy to the electron gas. Furthermore, the dot shape does not change significantly when in-plane voltages are tuned. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Laser treatment of various skin changes has become common clinical practice in recent years. Due to its physical properties, the CO2 laser is particularly well suited for cutting and ablating tissue. The high absorption of its wavelength in water (λ=10600 nm) is responsible for its low penetration depth in biological tissue. Shortening the exposure time minimizes thermal side effects, such as carbonization and coagulation. This effect can be lessened with the SilkTouch scanner, since the focussed laser beam is moved over a defined area by rapidly rotating mirrors. This enables a controlled and reliable removal of various dermal lesions. Particularly well-suited for treatment hypertrophic scars, post-acne scarring, perioral and periorbital wrinkles, rhinophymas and benign neoplasms including verruca vulgaris. Cosmetically favorable reepithelialization of the treated skin surfaces occurs within a very short time after treatment. Periorbital resurfacing and correction of a rhinophyma are used as examples of dermal treatment with the CO2 laser and the SilkTouch scanner.

Notes: Abstract Coulomb blockade is observed in semiconductor quantum dotsfabricated by scanning probe lithography. We demonstrate thatby combining top gates with in-plane gates, the lithographicshape of a dot can be transferred into the electron gas withhigh accuracy. Furthermore, by applying voltages to the in-plane gates, the number of electrons on the dot can be changedby more than 70 without changing its shape. Transportmeasurements in high magnetic fields and with positive topgate voltages applied indicate that the potential walls of thenanostructure can be made very steep.
