Notizen:
Summary Demonstration of the correlation between morphological, electrophysiological and biochemical findings makes it possible to obtain a more comprehensive observation on the inner ear function: 1. Functional impairment of the hair cells of the organ of Corti caused by ototoxic drugs was seen earlier than morphological changes. 2. The S-shaped curve of the time course of adaptation of the compound action potentials of the acoustic nerve was morphologically confirmed to be a sum of integration of the two curves due to both kinds of sensory cells in the organ of Corti. 3. The sensory cells with nuclear swelling are functionally inactive, and even those which show a morphologically normal appearance sometimes demonstrate functional impairment. 4. Differentiation of the damages caused by acoustic stimulation and by ototoxic drugs is morphologically impossible; it is, however, electrophysiologically and immunophoretically possible by the time course of adaptation and also by a newly formed line of precipitate in the a-globulin region of the peri- and endolymph, respectively.
