Notes: Abstract The effects of ammonium salt of sulphaminic acid (AS), introduced as antipyrene in polychloroprene compositions based on ‘Byprene-210’ in combination with antimony trioxide (AO) and chloroparaffin (ChP) are studied by means of a combined dynamic thermal analysis. After successive examination of the obtained thermal and flammability characteristics, it is assumed that AS and AO exhibit additive influence. The optimal range of concentrations of AS for which it is possible to substitute AO in the investigated polychloroprene compositions is established.

Notes: Abstract A procedure for platinum and gold determination utilizing, neutron activation combined with radiochemical separation, has been developed. The reaction198Pt (n, ′γ)199 $$Pt\xrightarrow{\beta }$$ is used for Pt determination. Four procedures for gold separation are examined: (1) adsorption on untreated polyurethane foam (UPF). (2) extraction with dibutyl sulphide. (3) reduction of gold to elementary state in conc. H2SO4, and extraction of gold as diethyldithiocarbamate complex. The extraction with Cu(DDC)2 is chosen as the most suitable process and applied to platinum and gold determinations in Bowen's Kale and mice organs, previously treated with Biocisplatinum® specimens.

Description / Table of Contents: Durch Einwirkung eines Nitriergemisches auf Butadienstyrenkautschuk wurden alkylaromatische Nitrooligomerderivate hergestellt.
Notes: By reaction of butadiene styrene rubber with a nitrating mixture alkylaromatic nitrooligomer derivatives are formed. The reaction was carried out in dichloroethane solution for 2 to 5 h at temperature 20 to 50°C. The functional composition of the nitrooligomers in dependence on temperature, reaction time, and composition of the nitrating mixture was determined by means of infrared spectroscopy. It was established that at high concentrations of NO2+ the nitration of the aromatic ring is predominant, while at low concentrations the nitration of the hydrocarbon chain prevails.

Description / Table of Contents: Triethanolammonium salts of nitrosulfonic acids (TEA-I) based on nitro-oligomers of polyisoprene rubber and triethanolammonium hydrogen sulfite were obtained. The reaction was carried out in an aqueous dioxane medium at pH = 6 to 7 and T = 40 to 80°C for 4 to 8 h. The TEA-I yield depends on the pH of the medium, the temperature, the duration of the process and the purity of triethanolamine. TEA-I posses surface-active properties. They were tested as brightening agents in sulfate cadmium electrolytes.

Notes: The influence of natural, activated, and modified microzeolite with the general formula Me2/m · Al2O3 · nSiO2 · pH2O (where Me = Fe3+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, K+, Na+) and an organic additive, such as ammonium sulfamate combined with ammonium sulfate on smoke formation and flammability of suspension poly(vinyl chloride) has been studied in the present work. Microzeolite in native (i.e., natural), activated, and modified forms has been found to possess both fire-retardant and smoke-suppressant effects in solid poly(vinyl chloride) compositions. Such effects have been best revealed by modified microzeolite containing 3,5-4% zinc. On the other hand, the ammonium sulfamate combined with ammonium sulfate is believed to act as a strong smoke-suppressant additive. Thermogravimetric examinations and limited oxygen index measurements show that microzeolite acts as a fireresistant and smoke-suppressant additive predominantly in the condensed phase. The ammonium sulfamate in combination with ammonium sulfate gives evidence of the same effects, mostly in the gaseous phase.

Notes: The influence of ammonium sulfamate (AS) independently or in a combination with antimony trioxide (AO) and chloroparaffin (ChP)-70% chlorine, on the oxygen index (OI) values as a flammability indicator, as well as on some physicomechanical and thermal characteristics of filled and unfilled compositions for cables based on chloroprene rubber (ChR), is studied here. It is found out that, at definite concentrations, AS and AO reveal an additive effect as fire retardants, decreasing the rate of heat rlease on heating. AS reveals a plasticizing effect as well.

Notes: The influence of ammomnium salts of oligomeric Br-N-containing sulphonic acids and some inorganic fire retardants on the physico-mechanical properties, flammability characteristics, and thermooxidative degradation of EPM compositions for insulation of ship cables has been studied. The ternary system consisting of bromosulphaminic acid bromonitrosulphonic acid and antimony trioxide in 6.6 : 3.4 : 4-5 mass ratio has been found to exhibit an addictive effect on the fire retardancy. A correlation between the flammability characteristics and some thermal properties of EPM compositions has also been established. The organic fire retardants of certain concentrations in EPM compositions have been found to exhibit a positive plasticizing performance. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: Natural, activated, and modified microzeolites were studied individually and in combination with ammonium sulfamate as high-melting dispersed additives. The strength - deformation properties of poly(vinyl chloride) were improved within the interval of 3-8 wt % additive. The strengthening effect due to the considered dispersed additives can be ascribed to the optimal adhesive interaction of the phase-boundary surface and to the formation of a partially ordered dispersed phase. The tetrahedral configuration of the modified microzeolite that contains 3.5-4% zinc in its crystal lattice remains unchanged, but exhibits a reduced birefringence. These relationships are of exceptional importance for the use of poly(vinyl chloride). The introduction of certain amounts of the additives improves the melt flow of the polymer and facilitates the processibility of the compositions. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
