Notes: In this paper, we studied the method of electrets electrode which formed to accumulatenegative electric charge by corona discharge. The breakdown voltage sample and damaged sample byvarious corona discharges have made material stabilization and improved characteristics of electriccharge storage throughout the annealing process. After the experiment made material stabilizationnearly melting point by many kinds of annealing conditions, we did the corona discharge again by thecharged high voltage, a discharge electrode gap, and a discharged time. As we compared it with thebest condition, we confirmed that characteristics of electric charge storage were improved

Notes: Effects of solution treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties in wroughtAlloy 718 were investigated. For the improvement of tensile and fatigue properties of wroughtAlloy 718, a modified solution heat treatment(MSHT), heating at 1000[removed info] for 3 minutes followed byfurnace cooling at the rate of 3[removed info]/minute and holding at 985[removed info] for 8 minutes, was proposed. Thistreatment was performed repeatedly 3 times and the samples were subject to the standard agingtreatment. For the purpose of comparison, a standard heat treatment(SHT) was also performed. Themicrostructures of modified solution heat treated specimens showed that small spherical shaped δ-phases were precipitated without grain growth, and the amount of δ-phases was smaller than that ofstandard heat treated specimens. However, the δ-phases of the standard heat-treated specimenshowed needle-like morphologies. Tensile and low cycle fatigue tests were performed on bothmodified heat-treated and standard heat-treated specimens at room temperature, 350[removed info] and 650[removed info].Low cycle fatigue tests on the modified heat treated specimens showed promising results withoutreduction of strength. However, the tensile properties of modified solution treated specimens wasalmost the same as those of standard heat treated materials both at room temperature and 650[removed info]

Notes: Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC 13032 has four enzyme II (EII) genes of the phosphotransferase system in its genome encoding transporters for sucrose, glucose, fructose, and an unidentified EII. To analyze the function of these EII genes, they were inactivated via homologous recombination and the resulting mutants characterized for sugar utilization. Whereas the sucrose EII was the only transport system for sucrose in C. glutamicum, fructose and glucose were each transported by a second transporter in addition to their corresponding EII. In addition, the ptsF ptsG double mutant carrying deletions in the EII genes for fructose and glucose accumulated fructose in the culture broth when growing on sucrose. As no fructokinase gene exists in the C. glutamicum genome, the fructokinase gene from Clostridium acetobutylicum was expressed in C. glutamicum and resulted in the direct phosphorylation of fructose without any fructose efflux. Accordingly, since fructokinase could direct fructose flux to the pentose phosphate pathway for the supply of NADPH, fructokinase expression may be a potential strategy for enhancing amino acid production.

Notes: The oxidation behavior of carbides on Inconel 718 surface was investigated. Oxidation tests were performed at the temperature range of 300 to 650℃. Two types of carbide, NbC and TiC were detected, and the amount of NbC was significantly higher than that of TiC. The oxidation of NbC started at the carbide surface and the matrix interface, and propagated into the interior of the carbide and eruption subsequently occurred with increasing oxidation time. In case of TiC, the oxidation occurred at the outer surface of the carbide and the matrix interface, but did not propagated into the interior of the carbide. Oxides formed on the outer surface of the TiC contained a relatively large amount of elemental Nb. The cross-section of oxidized specimen was investigated. NbC was oxidized more easily due to the significantly lower Gibbs free energy of oxidation than that of TiC. Eruption occurred mainly at the NbC because the Pilling-Bedworth ratio of Nb is higher than the critical value of 2.3 where eruption typically occurs

Notes: Abstract Decolorization of crude molasses by a newly isolated dye-decolorizing fungus, Geotrichum candidum Dec 1, was conducted in a jar fermentor system having fan-type propellers and a pressure swing adsorption oxygen generator. The oxygen-fortified air supply was effective not only to obtain a highest decolorization degree of 80% molasses but also the highest peroxidase activity which is responsible for the decolorization of the dyes. © Rapid Science Ltd. 1998
