    Notes: Abstract Besides carotenoids a complex of flexirubin-type pigments was isolated from the gliding bacteriumCytophaga johnsonae Cy j1 and separated into 6 components, which partly containe chlorine. In spite of the fact that these components still consist of pigment mixtures, the gross structures of 18 new flexirubin-type pigments could be deduced by spectroscopic and chemical investigations. The results open insights into biosynthesis and structural variety of the flexirubins, the novel non-isoprenoid pigments recently found inFlexibacter elegans.

Strain SamoaThe gliding bacterium Cytophaga spec. strain Samoa produces a complex of pigments which consists of 8 substances. These have been shown to possess flexirubin-type structures 6a-h. some of these pigments (6a-d) contain chlorine at ring A. Their structures differ from each other and from flexirubin (1) by the lengths of alkyl substituents at ring B. In contrast to flexirubin no methyl or other alkyl group is found at ring A.
    Notes: Der von dem Gleitenden Bakterium Cytophaga spec. Stamm Samoa produzierte Farbstoffkomplex besteht aus 8 Pigmenten vom Flexirubin-Typ, deren Konstitutionen 6a-h aufgeklärt wurden, Sie unterscheiden sich untereinander und von Flexirubin (1) durch die Länge der Alkylsubstituenten am Ring B. Im Gegensatz zu Flexirubin trägt Ring A weder eine Methyl- noch eine andere Alkyl-Gruppe; 6a-d sind am Ring A chloriert.

The Synthesis of some Antibiotically Active 2,5-Dialkylresorcinols  -  Synthesis of the Antibiotics DB 2073 and StempholStarting from 5-alkylresorcinol dimethyl ethers stemphol (2), the antibiotic DB 2073 (3) and a series of further 2.5-dialkylated resorcinols were synthesized via the corresponding 4-alkyl-2.6-dimethoxybenzaldehydes and biologically tested.
    Notes: Ausgehend Von 5-Alkylresorcin-dimethylethern wurden über die entsprechenden 4-Alkyl-2.6-dimethoxybenzaldehyde Stemphol (2) und das Antibiotikum DB 2073 (3) sowie eine Reihe weiterer 2.5-dialkylierter Resorcine dargestellt und biologisch getestet.

The Structures of the Flexirubin-type Pigments from Cytophaga johnsonae CyjlCytophaga johnsonae Cy jl produces more than 25 different flexirubin-type pigments (2 a-h, 3 a-h, 4 a-h, 5) besides lower concentrations of carotenoids. These pigments could be separated using HPLC. Their structures have been elucidated. 5 is the first known member in this class of bacterial pigments containing two chlorine atoms.
    Notes: Das Gleitende Bakterium Cytophaga johnsonae Cy jl produziert neben wenig Carotinoiden mehr als 25 verschiedene Pigmente vom Flexirubin-Typ (2a-h, 3a-h, 4a-h, 5), deren Trennung u.a. durch Hochdruckflüssigchromatographie gelang. Über die Konstitutionen dieser Pigmente wird berichtet. Mit 5 wurde erstmals in dieser Verbindungsklasse ein dichlorhaltiges Pigment aufgefunden.

    Description / Table of Contents: Investigations on Metabolites of Microorganisms, XI: Flexirubin, a Novel Pigment from Flexibacter elegansUp to now only carotinoid pigments have been found in ‘gliding bacteria’ of the Flexibacter/Cytophaga-type. The main pigment of Flexibacter elegans was now isolated by chromatographic separation and named flexirubin. Its structure was deduced to be 7. Flexirubin is the first member of a new class of bacterial pigments. In respect to the chemical structure this class is characterized by a polyene-carboxylic acid chromophore, which is esterified with a phenol carrying a long aliphatic side chain.
    Notes: Bisher wurden in den „Gleitenden Bakterien“ vom Typ Flexibacter/Cytophaga nur Carotinoide aufgefunden. Chromatographische Trennung des Farbstoffkomplexes aus Flexibacter elegans führte nun zur Isolierung des Hauptpigmentes Flexirubin, für das Struktur 7 abgeleitet wird. Flexirubin ist der erste Vertreter einer neuartigen Gruppe von Bakterienpigmenten, die sich strukturell durch einen Polyencarbonsäure-Chromophor in Esterbindung mit einem Phenol, das eine lange Alkyl-Seitenkette trägt, auszeichnet.

    Description / Table of Contents: Antibiotics from gliding Bacteria, XVII. - Myxopyronin A and B - Two Novel Antibiotics from Myxococcus fulvus Strain Mx f50From the gliding bacterium Myxococcus fulvus strain Mx f50 two antibiotics, named myxopyronin A and B, have been isolated and shown to possess the structures 9a and 9b. The two new compounds are 3-acyl-4-hydroxy-α-pyrones with an N-alkenylcarbamate function uncommon to natural products.
    Notes: Aus dem Kulturüberstand des Gleitenden Bakteriums Myxococcus fulvus Stamm Mx f50 (Myxobacterales) wurden zwei Myxopyronin A und B genannte Antibiotika isoliert und konstitutionell aufgeklärt. Es handelt sich um die Verbindungen 9a, b mit einer 3-Acyl-4-hydroxy-α-pyron-Struktur und einer für Naturstoffe ungewöhnlichen N-Alkenyl-Carbamat-Funktion.

    Description / Table of Contents: Antibiotics from Gliding Bacteria, XXVII.  -  Angiolam A - a Novel Antibiotic from Angiococcus disciformis (Myxobacterales)The myxobacterium Angiococcus disciformis, strain An d30, produces besides the antifungal myxothiazol, formerly isolated from Myxococcus fulvus, strain Mx f16, a novel antibiotic 5 named Angiolam A which inhibits the growth of bacteria. Its nineteen-membered lactone-lactam ring, substituted with a long-chain alkyl residue, is formed biogenetically from propionate, acetate, and alanine.
    Notes: Das Myxobakterium Angiococcus disciformis, Stamm An d30, produziert neben dem schon früher aus Myxococcus fulvus, Stamm Mx f16, isolierten antifungischen Myxothiazol ein neues gegen Bakterien wirksames und Angiolam A genanntes Antibiotikum 5. Es zeichnet sich durch einen mit einem langkettigen Alkylrest substituierten, neunzehngliedrigen Lacton-Lactam-Ring aus, der biogenetisch aus Propionat, Acetat und Alanin aufgebaut wird.

    Description / Table of Contents: Antibiotics from Gliding Bacteria, XXII. - The Biosynthesis of Myxopyronin A, an Antibiotic from Myxococcus fulvus, Strain Mx f50The biosynthesis of the antibiotic myxopyronin A (1) from acetate, glycine, and methionine was investigated by feeding experiments with the corresponding 13C- and 15N labeled precursors and observing the labeling pattern by 13C-NMR. The carbon skeleton of the antibiotic is derived from two polyacetate chains. Glycine is incorporated as starting unit into one of the chains. Two of the three methyl groups are incorporated from methionine, the third one from C-2 of acetate.
    Notes: Die Biosynthese des Antibiotikums Myxopyronin A (1) aus Acetat, Glycin und Methionin wurde durch Einbauversuche mit den entsprechenden 13C- und 15N-markierten Vorstufen anhand der 13C-NMR-Spektren aufgeklärt. Das Molekülgerüst wird aus zwei Polyacetat-Ketten aufgebaut, wobei Glycin in einem Fall als Starter fungiert. Zwei der drei Methylverzweigungen stammen aus Methionin, die dritte aus einem C-2-Atom von Acetat.
