Notes: Abstract Supported chromium oxide catalysts containing 0.5 and 4.0 wt% Cr, respectively, on a 7 wt% La2O3/ZrO2 carrier were studied by in situ EPR equipped with on-line GC during the catalyst pretreatment in flowing H2 and the aromatization of n-octane in the range 293〈T〈823 K. Active catalysts contain almost exclusively Cr3+ in the form of Cr2O3 clusters and isolated, coordinatively unsaturated Cr3+ species on the surface. The latter appear to be less sensitive to poisoning by coke deposition and govern residual catalytic activity.

Notes: Abstract ZrO2 and Pt/ZrO2 catalysts have been investigated by TPR, hydrogen chemisorption, TPDH and in the conversion ofn-hexane. At high temperature, ZrO2 takes up hydrogen. High temperature hydrogen treatment is a precondition of the catalytic activity in then-hexane conversion. Possibly, catalytically active acid sites are formed by this hydrogen treatment. The high temperature hydrogen treatment induces a strong Pt-ZrO2 interaction.

Notes: Abstract A Pt/ZrO2 catalyst has been investigated by temperature-programmed reduction and temperature-programmed desorption of hydrogen. Hydrogen spills over from Pt onto the ZrO2 surface at about 550°C. One part of spillover hydrogen is consumed by a partial reduction of zirconia. The other part is adsorbed on the surface and is desorbed at about 650°C. This desorption is a reversible one, i.e. it can be followed by a renewed uptake of spillover hydrogen. No connection between dehydroxylable OH groups and spillover hydrogen adsorption has been observed. The adsorption sites for the reversibly bound spillover hydrogen were possibly formed during the reducing hydrogen treatment.

Notes: Abstract Two sulfated zirconia samples have been synthesized using different preparation procedures. Textural and acid properties of these catalysts have been characterized and compared with commercial zeolite Hβ by means of nitrogen low-temperature adsorption, temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia and microcalorimetry. The two sulfated zirconias proved to be appropriate catalysts for acylations of aromatic compounds containing electron donating substituents, e.g., for syntheses of several aromatic ketones.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The results of temperature-programmed reduction are consistent with those of chemisorption of O2 and H2. In reduced Pt−Pb/Al2O3, a minor part of lead exists as Pbo in an alloy with Pt. The major part of lead is not reduced and exists as carrier-stabilized PbII surface species.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract With increasing amounts of Pb or Sn the weak adsorption of hydrogen decreases, the adsorption of oxygen increases and the activity in the dehydrogenation of cyclohexane decreases. A correlation could be found between the amount of weakly adsorbed hydrogen and the dehydrogenation activity.

Notes: Abstract In comparison with zeolites, a variety of Al pillared clays did not prove as promising cracking catalysts, possibly because their Brönsted sites are hidden. In the less demanding double bond shift isomerization, both catalyst types were comparable probably due to the presence of Lewis sites on both catalysts.
