Notes: Abstract We discuss a new mechanism of splitting of giant multipole resonances (GMR) in spherical neutron-rich nuclei. This mechanism is associated with the basic properties of an asymmetric drop of nuclear Fermi liquid. In addition to well-known isospin shell-model predictions, our approach can be used to describe the GMR splitting phenomenon in the wide nuclear-mass region A ∼ 40–240. For the dipole isovector modes, the splitting energy, the relative strength of resonance peaks, and the contribution to the energy-weighted sum rules are in agreement with experimental data for the integrated cross sections for photonuclear (γ, n) and (γ, p) reactions.

Notes: Abstract In heavy nuclei where the thickness of the diffused edge is relatively small, a certain sharp effective surface can be defined which characterizes the shape of the nucleus, and it can be considered as a collective dynamic variable. It is shown that the problem of fluid dynamics can be simplified by reducing it to simple linearized equations for the dynamics in the nuclear interior and boundary conditions set at the effective dynamic sharp surface of the density distribution. These conditions are derived from the fluid dynamical equations. Transitional densities obtained from this simple model are compared with the numerical solution of fluid dynamical equations.

Notes: Abstract Momentum conservation equations for the viscous fermi-liquid are derived from the kinetic Landau Vlasov equation with taking into account the retardation effects in the collision integral. Viscosity coefficients for the longitudinal and transversal zero sound in nuclear matter have been calculated. Results obtained in the semiclassical macroscopic nuclear model are compared with phenomenological values of the viscosity coefficients fitted to experimental data for the mean kinetic energies of fission fragments.

Notes: Abstract Equations of a combined, liquid plus particle model are derived which accounts consistently for the short-range liquid properties of nuclei as well as for the long-range quasi-particle behavior. Macroscopic quantities are defined as statistical averages and their dynamics is determined by an Euler-type equation, which contains a term due to the interaction with the gas component, and also by the continuity equation. For the quasi-particle component the full quantal treatment is kept in the form of the Liouville equation with a time-dependent external potential related to the bulk density. It may include the residual quasi-particle interaction. It is suggested that the solution of the coupled dynamics is facilitated by the explicit use of an effective sharp nuclear surface as a dynamical variable.

Notes: Abstract An analysis of the classical closed orbits in the infinitely deep elongated ellipsoidal well is given with respect to their relevance to the gross-shell structure of the single-particle spectra in deformed nuclei. It is shown that the deformed-shape gross-shells responsible for the ground state deformations, as well as those responsible for the fission intermediate states, find a reasonable explanation in terms of the semiclassical three-dimensional quantization involving the planar orbits in the axis-of-symmetry plane and the simplest three-dimensional orbits which appear at large distortions. The former are found important for the ground state shapes. The results are also compared with the harmonic oscillator model.

Notes: Abstract Density distribution across the nuclear surface is obtained in the approximation of relatively sharp nuclear edge. It is used to determine dynamical parts of the density relevant to density vibration resonances. Results of the simple calculations are in close agreement with detailed microscopic theories.

Notes: Abstract Equation for the gas component of the density matrix, as defined for the nuclear volume in the Liquid-Particle Model, is related to Landau's zero-sound equation for a distribution function. Boundary conditions which determine the physical solution are deduced which are set at a certain effective sharp surface and couple the volume density vibrations to dynamics of diffused surface layer of the density.

Notes: Abstract We expand the nonmarkovian collision integral in terms of multipolarities of the distortion of the Fermi surface. It is shown that damping of zero-sound is determined by all multipolarities of the Fermi-surface deformation. For large zero-sound velocity with respect to the Fermi velocity the relaxation time is related to the quadrupole deformation of the Fermi surface. The contributions of collisions to the total widths of the giant multipole resonances are calculated in a semiclassical macroscopic nuclear model.
