Notes: Abstract Desensitization induced by challenge of mast cells with antigen is specific for IgE-dependent signals. During the secretory process mast cells release adenosine, which can induce a desensitization of adenosine receptors. To determine whether adenosine receptors may de desensitized from a previous antigen challenge, mast cells were sensitized with anti-DNP IgE antibody, challenged with DNP-BSA antigen, returned to culture overnight, resensitized, and rechallenged. Previously challenged cells exhibited increased spontaneous β-hexosaminidase release, but adenosine retained its ability to augment β-hexosaminidase release. Adenosine enhanced A23187-stimulated release of β-hexosaminidase in control and previously challenged cells. Leukotriene C4 generation followed a similar pattern. Mastoparan, a direct G protein activator and mast cells secretogogue, produced a doubling of β-hexosaminidase release in previously challenged cells. Results using other G protein activators were equivocal. Degranulation alone is insufficient to induce adenosine receptor hyposensitization. Whether the hyperresponsiveness to mastoparan is a consequence of uncoupling of IgE receptors from G proteins remains uncertain.

Notes: Abstract For quality tests of ceramic Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductor materials (precursors and final products) accurate stoichiometric determinations of the metallic major components are necessary. Three methods were developed during the last decade in our group. Their properties and the results obtained are compared. The first classical analytical procedure requires to much manpower. The second combined chemical-spectrometric procedure is a routine method today, but also unsuitable for rapid tests. A new fully spectrometric procedure was recently developed using a simultaneously working Echelle spectrometer with CID detector, autosampler and a special self-made data evaluation software. The basis of this method are multi-line measurements of each analyte element, a new method of spectral line selection for main component precision determinations, multi-component calibrations, and frequent external standardizations. For this method the sum of the confidence intervals of all element determinations was less than 1%, and no systematic error was detected.

Description / Table of Contents: About the Flame Emission of HydrocarbonsThe stoichiometry of hydrogen-oxygen-nitrogen flames was continuously varied maintaining the volume of flame constant, and emission intensities of CH* and C2* during the combustion of hydrocarbons were investigated. From the dependency on concentration the formation of C2* was proved to be of second order. Extrapolation of homologous series shows that chain fragments with two C-atoms are necessary. For rich flames it is shown that CH* is mainly formed from C2, so that a reaction chain according to the upper two equations is probable. In lean flames the formation of CH* is mainly probable directly from the hydrocarbon according to the third equation.
