Notes: [Auszug] Prolyl cis-trans isomerizations are intrinsically slow reactions and known to be rate-limiting in many protein folding reactions. Here we report that a proline is used as a molecular timer in the infection of Escherichia coli cells by the filamentous phage fd. The phage is activated for infection ...

Notes: Abstract The conversion of isomeric chlorotoluenes to the corresponding benzonitriles by heterogeneous catalytic ammoxidation was studied. The reaction was carried out over (NH4)2[(VO)3(P3O7)2] as catalyst generated under the applied ammoxidation conditions by a solid-state reaction of the precursor compound VOHPO4· 0.5H2O. Activity and selectivity of the ammoxidation of chlorotoluenes are shown to depend on the position of the Cl-substituents causing a changed accessibility of the methyl group and a possible different electronic stabilization of the reaction intermediates.

Description / Table of Contents: This article describes an undergraduate research project being carried out in cooperation with the Institute for Health and Nursing Sciences and the occupational mutual benefit organization in Halle (Saale). A patient priority summary for care transition was developed to meet the need for documentation to guarantee continuous transfer of information on patients between nurses and other health care providers after discharge from hospital. It was very important to display an integrative point for all health care providers and to improve transparency for patients and their families. The procedure itself was process oriented: (1) the stage of identification, relating to the objectives of the project, and (2) the stage of conceptualization, testing its significance in practice, describing the current status of discharge practice and including a document analysis. The subsequent development of a form for managed care was validated by experts. It was pretested in a population of 35 patients over 64 years of age who had undergone surgery after accidents. According to the project’s aim, after discharge patients were interviewed by telephone according to a structured interview design. The results refer to the realization of defined objectives of the project, the integrative approach, the acceptance by patients in the sense of self-determination, the quality of the documentation and the value of using of the transition form as estimated by nurses. The patient priority summary for care transition can be seen as a practically useful tool for information transfer between health care providers, covering the patient’s perspective.

Notes: Abstract The adsorption and reaction of toluene on vanadyl pyrophosphate catalysts was studied by in situ infrared spectroscopy. Strongly adsorbed benzaldehyde and physically adsorbed cyclic anhydride species were observed at temperatures above 523 K. Water formed during reaction generates acid hydroxyl groups which cause a stronger adsorption of benzaldehyde and consecutive oxidation reactions. By co-adsorption of pyridine the acid sites are blocked and the deeper oxidation is suppressed.

Notes: Abstract Crystalline and amorphous vanadyl polyphosphates (VO(PO3)2) with a P/V ratio=2 were used as catalysts in the ammoxidation of toluene. The crystalline specimens exhibit a rather low activity compared with the amorphous solid. The benzonitrile selectivities always reached nearly 90%. Noticeable benzaldehyde amounts were detected that could be due to an inadequate ammonia activation on the solid surface.

Notes: Abstract Co and V-containing AlPO4-5 molecular sieves were characterized by IR spectroscopy and TPDA. The incorporation of Co2+ leads to the formation of additional P−OH groups. The introduction of V4+ on T-atom positions could not be observed and it seems that the VO2+ ions are only fixed by interaction with terminal OH-groups.

Notes: Abstract Vanadyl polyphosphates with a P/V ratio=2 (crystalline α-VO(PO3)2 and β-VO(PO3)2 as well as amorphous VO(PO3)2) were synthesized, starting from usually prepared precursor VO(H2PO4)2 but pursuing new methods using V2O5/H3PO4 as well as VOHPO4·1/2 H2O/H3PO4, too. The products were characterized by chemical analysis and X-ray diffractometry. In situ ESR spectroscopy was used as a tool to predict their catalytic activity in the ammoxidation reaction.
