Conclusions 1. A procedural approach was developed for studying residual stresses and their effect on the physicomechanical properties of stiff epoxy binders. 2. The formation of residual stresses in the polymer block leads to a regular distribution of the percentage of free volume and the nonrandom formation of defects. 3. Tensile tests of the investigated polymers established that compressive residual stresses have a strenthening effect, tensile residual stresses have a weakening effect, and the zone in which the residual stresses change sign has a damaging effect.
