Notes: In recent years, the replacement repair welding, which repairs damaged steel girder bridgesby replacement of the damaged sections with new steel plates through cutting and welding underin-service conditions, is spotlighted for its brilliant features, i.e. it can be achieved without incurringtraffic dislocation. However, the mechanical behavior of the welded joints under cyclic loads due tothe traffic which passes along the girder bridges is not clarified. In this paper, the fatigue strength ofthe replacement repair welded joints was investigated in order to improve reliability in the repairwelded joints. Steel plate was extracted from the old steel girder bridge; then was welded with newsteel plate to construct specimen with the replacement repair welded joints. Flux Cored Arc Welding(FCAW) process was used to fabricate the double "V" butt joints. Fatigue tests were conducted usinga servo hydraulic controlled 50tonf capacity UTM with a frequency of 5Hz under constant amplitudeloading. The fatigue strength of the replacement repair welded joints was analyzed in detail

Notes: The results Co and Fe implanted ZnO thin films were studied before and after 200 MeV Agion irradiation. The as-implanted films shows the presence of nano sized Co and Fe clusters as seenthrough XRD patterns and exhibited high resistivity compared to un-implanted films. After Ag ionirradiation the Co and Fe clusters get dissolved in ZnO lattice and the films resistivity reduced to halfof the as implanted values. The magnetic properties of Ag irradiated films were confirmed throughmagnetization hysteresis and Co implanted films exhibit higher magnetization compared to Feimplanted films

Notes: The manufacturing process of the exhaust valve in large marine diesel engines consists of an upset forging and final forming process. In the past, the exhaust valves in large marine diesel engines have been made through free forging by using the stretch forming method. This method has used the ingot and the billet as a preliminary forming process. Nimonic 80A, a superalloy, is presently used for the material of the exhaust valve. For the forming method of the valve, theelectric upset method is used. Solid bar is raised up to the forming temperature by using electric energy and is continually deformed by upset pressure. The electric upsetting processing is a useful method for the high quality of exhaust valves in large marine diesel engines. It can keep the continuous grain flow, excellent mechanical property, and corrosion resistance because of the elaborate macrostructure of the valve face. The purpose of this paper is to predict the optimum process condition through simulation of the exhaust valve with a diameter of 73mm. The experimental result of an exhaust valve with a diameter of 19mm is in good agreement with the simulation result using the “QForm” that can solveelectric upsetting problems. Finally, the optimal manufacturing process of the electric current and the upset load are surveyed

Notes: In recent years, the replacement repair welding, through which damaged bridges arerepaired by replacing of the damaged sections with new steel plates through cutting and weldingunder in-service conditions, has been highlighted for its brilliant features i.e. it can be achievedwithout incurring traffic dislocation. However, the validity of the repair method is not fully verifiedbecause of its lack of safety and reliability. Moreover, repair method by welding inevitably involvescutting and welding process, and the weldability of the replacement repair welded joints has not yetbeen clarified. In this paper, the weldability of the replacement-repair-welded joints wasinvestigated in order to improve reliability in the repair welded joints of the aged steel bridge. ASteel plate was extracted from the steel bridge after the period of prolonged service, and waswelded with a new plate, using replacement repair welding technique, in order to construct aspecimen. Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) process was used to fabricate the double "V" buttjoints. Welded joints were characterized on the basis of chemical composition analysis, hardnesstest and micro-structural analysis

Notes: Considering the exhaust valve spindle consists of a valve head and a stem comprising thebody, the use of different materials, that is, Nimonic 80A for the head and SNCrW for the stem, canreduce the manufacturing cost dramatically. The inertia welding was conducted to make the largeexhaust valve for low speed marine diesel engines, superalloy Nimonic 80A for valve head of 540mmdiameter and high alloy SNCrW for valve stem of 115mm diameter. Due to different properties ofmaterial like thermal conductivity and flow stress on the two sides of the weld interface, modeling iscrucial in determining the optimal weld geometry and parameters. FE simulation was performed bythe commercial code DEFORM-2D. A Good agreement between the predicted and actual weldedshape was observed. It was expected that simulation will significantly reduce the number ofexperimental trials needed to determine the weld parameters, especially for welds of very expensivematerials or large shaft. A variety of tests, including microstructure observation, tensile, hardness andfatigue test, are conducted to evaluate the quality of welded joints

Notes: TMCP steels produced by thermo-mechanical control process are now spot lighted due tothe excellent combinations of strength, toughness and weldability. Recently, in Korea, high strengthSM570-TMCP steel whose tensile strength is 600MPa has been developed and applied to steelstructures due to its excellent nature. But, for the application of the TMCP steel to steel structures, it isnecessary to elucidate not only the material characteristics but the mechanical characteristics ofwelded joints. In this study, high temperature tensile properties of the SM570-TMCP steel wereinvestigated through the elevated temperature tensile test and the characteristics of residual stresses inwelded joints of the TMCP steel were studied through the three-dimensional (3-D) thermalelastic-plastic finite element (FE) analysis on the basis of mechanical properties at high temperaturesobtained from the experiment. The results are then compared with the conventional quenched andtempered high strength SM570 steel
