    Notes: Summary Stones are sometimes spilled at the time of cholecystectomy. Retrieval may be difficult, especially during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Little is known about the natural history of missed stones which are left behind in the peritoneal cavity. We present a case in which a patient developed an intraabdominal abscess around such a stone. The abscess recurred after drainage and removal of the stone was needed for resolution. This case suggests that care should be taken to avoid stone spillage, and that stones which are spilled into the abdomen should be retrieved.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wurden verschiedene Ausgangsgemische, bestehend aus dem Diglyzidyläther von Bisphenol A, diepoxydiertem Kardanol als reaktives Streckmittel, einem Anhydrid als Vernetzungsmittel und einem tertiären Amin als Vernetzungskatalysator mit bzw. ohne Anwendung eines Fortifyers untersucht. Der Einfluss des Fortifyers auf das Streckmittel wurde ebenfalls untersucht. Die Bruttokinetik der Vernetzung zeigt eine Temperaturabhängigkeit einfachen Arrhenius-Types mit einer Aktivierungsenergie im Bereich von 54–120 kJ/mol sowie einen Reaktionstyp erster Ordnung mit einer Konversionsrate von 85%. Ein steigender Streckmittelgehalt bewirkt ein Anwachsen der Aktivierungsenergie. Der Vernetzungsreaktion liegt ein Dreistufenmechanismus zu Grunde, der unter anderem auch eine nukleofile bimolekulare Substitutionsreaktion beinhaltet. Der Einsatz eines Fortifyers senkt zwar die Vernetzungstemperatur, verändert aber nicht die Endkonversionsrate.
    Abstract: Резюме Исследованы различн ые композиции, состоя щие из диглицидного эфир а бисфенолаА, диэпоксидированног о карданола, как разба вителя реакции, ангидрида, ка к вулканизирующего аг ента, и третичного ами на, как катализатора реакци и отверждения, с или без использования эп оксизакрепителя. Уст ановлено влияние закрепителя на разбавитель. Найдено, что общая кин етика реакции отверж дения подчиняется простой температурной зависимости аррениу совского типа с энерг ией активации 54–120 кдж·моль−1 и реакцией первого порядка с 85% превращени ем. Наблюдалось увели чение энергии активации с у величением содержания разбавит еля. Найдено, что реакц ия отверждения следует трехступенчатому механизму, включающе му реакцию нуклеофил ьного бимолекулярного сме рения, для которой и предложено объяснен ие. Введение закрепит еля понижает температуру отвержд ения, но не затрагивает конечну ю степень реакции.
    Notes: Abstract Different formulations, composed of the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A, diepoxidized cardanol as reactive diluent, an anhydride as curing agent, and a tertiary amine as curing catalyst, with/without the use of an epoxy fortifier, were analysed. The effect of the fortifier on the diluent was also observed. The overall kinetics of curing was observed to follow a simple Arrhenius-type temperaturedependence, with an activation energy in the range 54–120 kJ/mol, with first-order kinetics up to 85% conversion. An increase in activation energy was observed with an increase of diluent content. The curing reaction was found to follow a three-step mechanism, involving a nucleophilic bimolecular displacement reaction, for which an explanation was offered. Incorporation of the fortifier lowers the curing temperature, but does not alter the final degree of reaction.

    Notes: The relationship between the tendon of the long head of the biceps brachii muscle and the glenoidal labrum was investigated in a large number of dissected human shoulder joints. In about 70% of the specimens examined, the labrum was deficient at the posterosuperior margin of the glenoid because the tendon of the biceps coursed over this margin to blend with the labrum. Because of this, a small crescentic accessory facet was observed at the posterosuperior margin of the glenoid. In the majority of cases, the tendon of the biceps blended with the glenoidal labrum, and only a small part of the tendon attached to the supraglenoid tubercle. However, in 25% of the specimens, the major portion of the tendon was attached to the supraglenoid tubercle.

    Description / Table of Contents: Phenol und Kresole wurden mit 1,2-Dichlorethan umgesetzt unter Verwendung von wasserfreiem Aluminiumchlorid als Katalysator. Die so erhaltenen Harzproben wurden durch IR-Spektren charakterisiert und das Zahlenmittel des Molekulargewichts (M̄n) durch Dampfdruckosmometrie (VPO) bestimmt. Die thermischen Eigenschaften wurden mittels Differentialthermoanalyse (DTA), Thermogravimetrie (TG) und Differential-Scanning-Kalorimetrie (DSC) untersucht.Die kinetischen Parameter der Zersetzungsreaktion wurden nach der Methode von Chatterjee und Reich bestimmt. Es erwies sich, daß die thermische Stabilität von der Stellung der Methylgruppen am aromatischen Kern abhängt.
    Notes: Phenol and cresols have been reacted with 1,2-dichloroethane using anhydrous aluminium chloride as catalyst. The resin samples thus obtained have been characterized by IR spectra and number average molecular weight (M̄n) by vapour pressure osmometry (VPO). The thermal properties have been studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).Kinetic parameters for the decomposition reaction are determined by Chatterjee and Reich methods. Thermal stability is found to be dependent upon the position of methyl group on aromatic nuclei.

    Description / Table of Contents: Das thermische Verhalten von m-Methoxyanisol-1,2-dichlorethan-Harzen wurde bei unterschiedlichen Heizraten untersucht. Die kinetischen Parameter der Zersetzung der Harze wurden mittels Thermogravimetrie und Differentialthermoanalyse bestimmt. Die Aktivierungsenergie für die erste Stufe des Abbaus betrug E1 ∼ 3 kcal·mol-1, für die zweite Stufe E2 ∼ 28 kcal·mol-1 und für den Gesamtabbau E12 ∼ 36 kcal·mol-1.
    Notes: Thermal behaviour of m-methoxyanisole-1,2-dichloroethane resins was studied at different heating rates. Kinetic parameters for the decomposition of the resins have been determined from TG and DTA studies using various methods of thermal analysis. The first stage of degradation had E1 ∼ 3, the second stage had E2 ∼ 28 and the overall degradation had E12 ∼ 36 kcal·mol-1, respectively.

Die mit den Harzen beschichteten Flußstahlplatten wurden auf Oberflächenglanz, Kratzfestigkeit und Chemikalienbeständigkeit untersucht. Harze mit Styrolanteil zeigen deutlich verbesserte Beschichtungseigenschaften.
    Notes: The present paper is concerned with the coating applications of a vinyl ester resin derived from diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A and its urethane derivative. The mild steel panels coated with the synthesized resins were evaluated for their gloss on the surface, scratch hardness and chemical resistance. The incorporation of styrene in the resin systems improves the properties of coatings remarkably.

    Notes: Epoxy Phenolic novolac resins were prepared from the acid catalyzed condensation products of various phenols such as phenol, p-cresol, p-tert-butyl-phenol and cardanol with formaldehyde. All of these resins have been utilized to prepare the glass-reinforced composites. The fabricated composites were evaluated for their mechanical and dielectric properties. The incorporation of an epoxy fortifier yielded a significant improvement in mechanical properties.

    Notes: Glass-fiber reinforced epoxy composites were fabricated from the matrix resin liquid diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-C (DGEBC) using various amines as curing agents with and without fortifier (20 phr). The epoxy laminates were evaluated for their mechanical properties, such as flexural strength, interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), tensile strength and shore-D hardness. Dielectric properties, such as the dielectric constant, tan δ, dielectric loss and the resistivity of the laminated samples, were measured. The effect of the chemical reagents on the mechanical properties (i.e. flexural strength, lLSS) was also studied.

    Notes: Thick films of tetra-N-glycidyl epoxy resin of p,p′-diaminodiphenyl methane (TGDDM) were prepared using p,p′-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM), p,p′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) and diethylene triamine (DETA) as curing agent with or without the epoxy fortifiers PGEHA and VCDRC (at 20 phr level). These thick films were used to evaluate various physical, mechanical, chemical resistant and dielectric properties.
