Notes: [Auszug] Rooted stem cuttings of the stamen-less mutant were initially exposed to 25 p.p.m. of GA3 and other chemical stimuli in aerated solution culture root media3. Anthers developed in the flowers of plants exposed to GA3 within 34 weeks. Viable pollen was also produced in these G A3-induced anthers. ...

Notes: Abstract Triapenthenol or RSW 0411 (B(-cyclohexalmethylene)-gamma-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-ethanol), a triazole plant growth regulator, applied preemergence as a separate broadcast application, protected tolerant and midtolerant soybean cultivars from metribuzin (4-amino-6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one)-induced necrotic injury, and stabilized seedling fresh weight and dry weight loss to herbicide treatment. Soybean yields were not significantly reduced by triapenthenol treatment alone, but 1.12 kg ai/ha metribuzin and a 0.56 kg ai/ha triapenthenol plus 1.12 kg ai/ha metribuzin combination reduced crop yield averaged across cultivars.

Notes: Abstract Plant growth regulator (PGR) application decreased uptake of 10−6 M14C-labeled metribuzin (4-amino-6-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one) into leaf interveinal areas of 21-day-old soybean seedlings. BAS 140 810, (N-allyl-N-2-(2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy)ethyl-piperidinium-bromide), as a seed treatment or 10−6 M triapenthenol or RSW 0411 (B-(cyclohexalmethylene)-gamma-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-ethanol) in nutrient solution slowed interveinal unloading of metribuzin and altered metabolite pools. Stems and roots of PGR-treated plants exhibited significantly greater water-soluble metabolite pools than untreated controls. TLC metabolite identification indicated an increase in metribuzin conjugates. This may contribute to the mode of action involved in the apparent safening mechanism. Furthermore, floating leaf disk studies with metribuzin showed plant growth regulation figured prominently in safening against the cessation of oxygen evolution.

Notes: Abstract The nuclear response function of a nucleus has been computed in the Fermi Gas model when another nucleus collides with it. A simple relation has been derived for the frictional co-efficient for the later stages of the nucleus-nucleus collision. The results agree quite well with phenomenology and microscopic derivations of the frictional co-efficient.

Notes: Abstract The local density approximation is used in this paper to calculate the first-order pion-nucleus optical potential. TheπN scattering matrix in nuclear medium is computed by employing separableπN scattering matrix. This nuclear-mediumπN scattering matrix, which includes impulse-approximation correction is then used to construct the pion-nucleus optical potential.π-12C elastic scattering results obtained by using this potential are compared with the impulse-approximation potential results.

Notes: Abstract We investigate the properties of hybrid stars consisting of quark matter in the core and hadron matter in outer region. The hadronic equation of state (EOS) is calculated by using nonlinear Walecka model. Strange baryons are included in the hadronic EOS calculation. The chiral colour dielectric (CCD) model, in which quarks are confined dynamically, is used to calculate quark matter EOS. We find that the phase transition from hadron to quark matter is possible in a narrow range of the parameters of nonlinear Walecka and CCD models. The transition is strong or weak first order depending on the parameters used. The EOS thus obtained, is used to study the properties of hybrid stars. We find that the calculated hybrid star properties are similar to those of pure neutron stars.

Notes: Summary The inheritance of tolerance in the tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) to metribuzin 4-amino-6-tert- butyl-3-(methylthio)-as-triazine-5(4H)-one herbicide was investigated. A biossay using a nutrient solution culture in controlled environment growth cabinets was used to evaluate progeny from tolerant by susceptible tomato cultivar crosses for response to metribuzin. ‘Fireball’ and ‘Vision’ were used as tolerant cultivars and ‘Heinz 1706’ as a susceptible cultivar. Parental, F1, F2, and some backcross generations were studied. Visual phytotoxicity, seedling height, and seedling dry weight were recorded. The bioassay was effective for classification of the segregating generations. F2, and progeny variance analysis suggested that the inheritance of tolerance to metribuzin was controlled by one major gene with modifiers. Heritability values of 0.58 to 0.72 indicated a potential for cultivar improvement through plant breeding.

Notes: Abstract Thirteen species of fleshy fungi were identified from two agricultural fields during the 1989 and 1990 growing seasons at the Rural Development Center (RDC) and Horticulture Farm, Coastal Plain Experiment Station, Tifton, Georgia. The three most common fungi wereCoprinus plicatilis, Cyathus olla, andPanaeolina foenisecii. At the former site, residue management practices were established for evaluating crop production and at the Horticulture Farm different crops were grown with conservation tillage employing a Low Input Sustainable Vegetable Production system. Tillage treatments at the RDC were no-till, row-till, ridge-plant, and moldboard-plowing. Residue management of triticale included burning or cutting the stubble at a height of 20 or 60 cm at harvest. At the Horticulture Farm, seven winter cover crops were compared to a fallow control. No significant differences were shown between observations of fungal species and individual treatments at the Horticulture Farm during 1989 and 1990. However, there were treatment differences for observed fungi at the RDC farm on specific dates for both years. Furthermore, no individual treatment(s) during the investigation increased observation rates of specific fungal species. Non-burned debris treatments showed consistently higher populations and diversity of fungi than burn debris plots.
