Zusammenfassung In der Kinderchirurgie Mainz wurden von 1968 bis Ende 1982 13 Kinder mit 17 Schenkelhernien operiert, 5 Knaben und 8 Mädchen. 4 Kinder waren an einer Leistenhernie voroperiert und kamen unter der Diagnose „Leistenhernienrezidiv” zu uns. 8 Femoralhernien waren rechts, eine links- und 4 beidseitig. Dem inguinalen Zugang wird der Vorzug gegeben wegen der besseren Übersichtbersicht und zur Versorgung zusätzlicher Leistenhernien. Der besondere Wert einer gründlichen klinischen präoperativen Untersuchung wird betont, da die Diagnose oft erst intraoperativ gestellt wird. Die Differentialdiagnose wird diskutiert.

Summary From 1968–1982 13 children were operated for 17 femoral hernias, 5 boys and 8 girls. Four children had already been operated for an inguinal hernia and had been referred to us under the diagnosis of a recurrent inguinal hernia. Eight femoral hernias were on the right side, one on the left and four were bilateral. For the purpose of better exploration and for operating an additional inguinal hernia, the inguinal incision is preferred. It is emphasized that the preoperative clinical examination should be thorough, as a femoral hernia is often diagnosed only at operation. The differential diagnosis is discussed.
