    Notizen: In recent studies, sputum smear cell counts were found to be reproducible and usefully applied to research in asthma and other airway conditions. However, cell definition on the smears is poor, and the procedure is tedious and has limited utility. The objective of this study is to improve the methods of sputum examination. The subjects used in this study were people with bronchitis or asthma from whom sputum could be obtained. By inverted microscopy, portions of fresh sputum were selected to exclude salivary contamination. These portions were exposed to different volumes of dithiothreitol for varied lime intervals. We used the resulting cell suspensions to perform total cell counts and prepare cytospins for differential cell counts and immunohistochemical stains for GM-CSF, EG2, TNFα and IL-8. Cytospins were compared with smears for differential cell counts on the same sputum specimens. Excellent cell dispersion and definition in cytospins could be observed. The time required for differential cell counting on cytospins was reduced and cytospin counts were more reproducible than smears. Greater duration of treatment of sputum with dithiothreitol tended to increase total cell counts and significantly decreased EG2 staining hut had no effect on differential cell counts or the cytokine cell components. Therefore the proposed method of sputum examination involving cell dispersion and use of cytospins overcomes a number of the disadvantages of the examination of smears.

    Notizen: We are all aware today of the growing interest in continuing medical education (CME) programmes in many European Countries and it is important to understand why and how CME could become an international reality. It is obvious that patients need a good doctor – the best possible – as far as medical knowledge, attention to the patient's quality of life and cost–control is concerned. All European health care systems have to take into consideration everything that causes patient dissatisfaction, risk management and unjustified expenses. An example is the increase of claims and complaints against doctors and the strong attention of patients to medical procedures. In other words, medicine worldwide is becoming a service industry and has to consider quality and quantity of performances as well as to pay attention to personal responsibility. The object of our work is to evaluate the CME systems present in Europe, to show the work done on CME by the CME Committee of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology and to highlight the Consensus Report on CME approved by an international panel of CME experts.

    Notizen: Abstract: We present some new results on the rational solutions of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov (KZ) equation for the four-point conformal blocks of isospin I primary fields in the SU (2) k Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten (WZNW) model. The rational solutions corresponding to integrable representations of the affine algebra (2) k have been classified in [#!MST!#,#!ST!#]; provided that the conformal dimension is an integer, they are in one-to-one correspondence with the local extensions of the chiral algebra. Here we give another description of these solutions as specific braid-invariant combinations of the so called regular basis introduced in [#!STH!#] and display a new series of rational solutions for isospins I = k + 1,  k ∈ N corresponding to non-integrable representations of (2) k .

    Notizen: Abstract The biological transformation of Dursban was investigated during perfusion of the livers of rats exposed for 4, 8, and 15 days to poisoning by CCl4 and Milbex (an inhibitor and inducer, respectively, of microsomal enzymes). The ultrastructure of the hepatocytes was studied in rats poisoned with these substances. Three stages of structural and functional changes were identified. After the eighth day, the pathways of transformation of Dursban were reorganized: dealkylation processes, leading to the formation of less toxic metabolites, were intensified.

Es wurde die Bildung eines Eutektikum mit der Zusammensetzung von 33m% MnMoO4 und 67m% MoO3 und dem Schmelzpunkt von 969–973 K beobachtet sowie versucht, da\ Zustandsdiagramm für das MnMoO4-MoO3-System zu erstellen. Weiterhin wurde die thermische StabilitÄt von Mn-Mo-O-Katalysatoren mit der von handelsüblichen Fe-Mo-O-Katalysatoren verglichen. Es wurde festgestellt, da\ Mangan(II)-molybdatkatalysatoren bis zu 973 K hitzebestÄndig und im Hinblick auf ihre praktische Anwendung von eindeutig gro\er Bedeutung sind.
    Notizen: Abstract The thermal stability of MnMoO4-MoO3 catalysts for methanol oxidation has been studied. Formation of eutectic composition of 33 wt.% MnMoO4 and 67 wt% MoO3 and a melting point of 969–973K was observed. An attempt has been made to plot a state diagram of the MnMoO4-MoO3 system. The thermal stabilities of the Mn-Mo-O and commercial Fe-Mo-O catalysts have been compared. It has been concluded that manganese(II) molybdate catalysts are stable up to 973 K and are of a definite interest in view of their application in practice.
