On Surface Compounds of Transition Metals. IX. The Influence of Activation and Reduction Temperature on the Quality of Coordinatively Unsaturated Surface Chromium (II) on SilicagelPreparing coordinatively unsaturated Cr(II) surface compounds, the variation of Takt and/or Tred results in products of different reactivity, referring to equal Cr(II) content. A parameter Q is defined which represents the unsaturated character of the surface Cr(II) sites quantitatively. From measurements of ΔH =; f(Takt, Tred)p,T of the reactions with N2, CO and O2, the corresponding three dimensional Q-profiles are obtained. The necessary Qmin for a given reaction (Lig, p, T) can be extrapolated by correlation of ΔH and stoichiometry data. - The reflection spectra of free and (partially) N2 — or CO-complexed surface Cr(II) sites are discussed on the basis of their Q values.
Notes:
