Notes: Abstract  In the mouse, Peg1/Mest is widely expressed in mesoderm-derived tissues. In separate studies, it has been shown to be maternally imprinted, that is, only the paternally inherited allele is active in mice and in humans. Here, we provide evidence that Peg1/Mest is expressed at very low levels in all tissues of adult mice as assessed by RT-PCR. Moreover, by using species-specific polymorphisms in the Peg1/Mest sequence we can demonstrate that in adult mice the gene remains imprinted in all of these tissues.
