Description / Table of Contents: Summary By means of the hemagglutination test with monkey erythrocytes the measles antibody titer was determined in 61 sera from MS-patients and 175 sera of other central-nervous or peripheral-nervous diseases, including 17 normal persons. No statistically significant differences could be found between the means of these groups, as well as the titer distribution was quite similar in all 4 populations. Thus an elevated measles antibody titer in MS-patients cannot be confirmed. In addition there does not exist a connexion between the measles antibodies and the antibodies in serum, precipitating with brain antigen extracts (Ouchterlony test).

Notes: Summary In the present vaccination trial, 202 seronegative schoolchildren comprising both sexes and aged 11 to 12 years were vaccinated i.m. in the upper arm with either the subunit vaccine at a dosage of 600 CCA or 200 CCA or with a whole-virus vaccine at a dosage of 200 CCA, using the double-blind procedure. Both vaccines were prepared from the strain A/New Jersey/76 (x 5 3a-recombinant). The vaccination was followed four weeks later by a booster injection. In tests of local and systemic reactogenicity, it was found that at both dosages the subunit vaccine caused a low frequency of minor adverse reactions. The whole-virus vaccine was marked by a significantly higher rate of adverse reactions, whether of the local or systemic variety. The whole-virus vaccine had, however, a higher immunogenicity than the subunit vaccine, and due to the relatively high rate of adverse reactions it causes, it is not recommended for the vaccination of seronegative children. Because of its low reactogenicity, the subunit vaccine can be given at higher dosage, and it is a matter for consideration whether a better antibody response might not result from two booster injections.

Notes: Summary Demethylation ofl- andd-adrenaline was studied on narcotized catsin vivo. In metabolism of infusedl-adrenaline, formation of noradrenaline represents one first step. On the other hand, metabolism ofd-adrenaline does not show any intermediate formation of noradrenaline.

Notes: Summary The effect of ε-aminocaproic acid on EAE of rabbits was investigated. A partial inhibition, dependent on the dose administered by intravenous injection, can be proved. The formation of antibodies is not significantly impaired, whereas an inhibition of local granulomatosis is obvious. The results obtained can be interpreted as an inhibition of delayed immune reaction.

Notes: [Auszug] We have found low serum lipids as well as generally increased gamma-globulins in Tibetans in Nepal and Switzerland4. Now we have examined several serum components of a group of Tibetan refugees resettled in Switzerland by the Swiss Red Cross. This communication presents the results of an ...

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The cholesterol lowering effect of various milk constituents was examined in six trials with growing pigs. Each trial is described. By means of main component analysis 44 factors were tested in order to see whether they influenced the lipid metabolism. We observed that there was no specific component in the milk which showed a cholesterol lowering effect. Milk and milk constituents change the nutrient composition of the food and can, e.g. by means of the changed amino acid pattern, indirectly lower the lipid content in the blood.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Cardiovascular risk factors and eating habits were analysed in 1000 industrial workers during their routine medical examination. A relationship could be shown between frequency of meals and overweight: the less meals taken regularly the higher the prevalence of overweight (overale 25% of the examined showed massive overweight). The known relationships between individual risk factors were confirmed.
