Notes: An improved method for measuring and testing long-run returns is proposed. The method adjusts for the right-skewed distribution of long-run buy-and-hold by decomposing average cross-sectional buy-and-hold returns into mean components and volatility components. The method is applied to initial public offerings in Denmark. The mean-component under performance of initial public offering stocks compared to the market is 30% and significant after 5 years. Compared to matching firms the under performance of IPO stocks is 13% after 5 years but insignificant.

Notes: [Auszug] Studies with Evans blue have shown, however, that this could be accounted for by the amount of supernatant trapped in the loosely packed sediment. The leakage of enzyme could not be inhibited either by increasing the concentration of glucose to 500 mgm. per cent and using a medium containing ...

Notes: Summary Effects of a single dose of 200 IU of nasal salmon calcitonin (SCT) on calcium metabolism and biochemical markers of bone turnover were investigated in 12 healthy male volunteers in a randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover design. The nasal spray was given in the morning, and subsequently blood and urine samples were collected for 26 hours. There was a significant decrease in serum ionized calcium with a nadir 4 hours after administration of nasal SCT accompanied by a significant increase in serum parathyroid hormone (P = 0.01) and serum calcitriol (P = 0.04). Nasal SCT did not reduce urinary hydroxyproline/creatinine. Urinary deoxypyridinoline/creatinine was lowered significantly 2 hours after administration of nasal SCT and throughout the first 24 hours, but remained unchanged for the last 2 hours. On a 24-hour basis, urinary deoxypyridinoline/creatinine decreased from 14.1 (3.5) nmol/mmol to 11.7 (3.2) nmol/mmol after nasal SCT (P = 0.04). Nasal SCT did not change the serum levels of alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, and the carboxyterminal propeptide of type 1 procollagen. The results indicate that nasal SCT given as a single dose provokes a modest decrease in bone resorption lasting several hours, but leaves bone formation unaffected.

Notes: [Auszug] Three-dimensional (3D) NMR experiments can be conceived by combining two 2D-NMR experiments leaving out the detection period of the first experiment and the preparation period of the second4. This is illustrated in a general way in Fig. 1. The location of a peak in 3D space is described by the ...

Notes: Abstract The yaw angle in flight of high velocity bullets has been discussed for a number of years, due to its contribution to the tumbling of the bullet in the target. Since few unclassified reports of contemporary bullets are available, we investigated the yaw angles of the bullets used in the M16A2, G3, AK-47 and AK-74 rifles by the shadowgraph technique. Our results show that bullets from military rifles tend to stabilize at less than 3° within 25 m, and this angle has been thought to be insignificant in the production of gunshot wounds. Bullets from some modern small calibre high velocity rifles such as the M16A2 and the AK-74 can have quite large yaw angles in their initial flight. The results, which confirm the opinion of contemporary writers, should settle the controversy in this area of wound ballistics.

Notes: Summary NMR pulse sequences for measuring coupling constants in 13C, 15N-labeled proteins are presented. These pulse sequences represent improvements over earlier experiments with respect to resolution and number of radiofrequency pulses. The experiments are useful for measuring JNH β, JNCO, JNC α, JH N CO and JH N H α. Applications to chymotrypsin inhibitor 2 (CI-2) are shown.

Notes: Abstract It is demonstrated that a new pulse sequence element, Spin-State-SelectiveCoherence Transfer (S3CT), via an intermediate state ofheteronuclear IS zero- or double-quantum coherence can transfer the twosingle-quantum coherences on one of the spins exclusively to any one of thetwo single-quantum coherences on the other spin. This fact is used for editinginto two subspectra that are most suitable for extraction of homo- orheteronuclear J coupling constants when S3CT is combined withhomonuclear coherence transfer during a mixing period. Experimentalconfirmation is obtained using a 15N-labeled 58-residue protein, the C-terminal Kunitz domain from human type VI collagen. The J coupling con-stants determined include 3JHN-Hα and3JN-Hβ related to the φ andχ1 angles, respectively.

Notes: Summary A new 2D NMR pulse sequence for E.COSY-type measurement of JHH coupling constants is introduced. It exploits a heteronuclear spin, e.g., 13C, for displacement in the ω1 frequency dimension via a large heteronuclear J coupling. The experiment is demonstrated by application to a heptapeptide at the natural abundance 13C level. It is suitable, for example, for measurement of 3JHH and 4JHH coupling constants in peptides and proteins.

Notes: Abstract Spin-State-Selective Excitation (S3E), which forexample selectively excites amide proton resonances corresponding toexclusively either the α or the β spin state of the covalentlybound 15N atom is employed for E.COSY-type extraction ofheteronuclear J coupling constants. Instead of having one spectrum with twopeaks (corresponding to the α or β spin state of15N), S3E generates two spectra, each with onlyone peak for each 15N nucleus. These two spectra are generatedfrom the same data set, so that there is no reduction in sensitivitycompared to conventional 1JNH-resolved methods.Another interesting feature in comparison with conventional methods is that1JNH can be suppressed during the evolutionperiod, meaning that no heteronuclear multiplet structure is visible in theω1 frequency dimension. The S3E pulsesequence element is combined with NOESY for measurement of3JN-Hβ and JN-Hαcoupling constants in either a hetero- or a homonuclear correlated version.Experimental confirmation is obtained using the protein RAP 17-;97(N-terminal domain of α2-macroglobulin ReceptorAssociated Protein).
