Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Abstract Reduction of aromatic acyl bromides in ethereal solution by illumination with the Hg-low pressure lamp (254 nm) leads to aromatic aldehydes in 60–80% yield. The reaction starts with photolysis of the acyl-halogen bond which proceeds with a quantum efficiency of approximately 0.25.
