Notes: [Auszug] WE believe that the half-life of. manganese-53 is much longer than previously believed, and that the amount of manganese-53 radioactivity produced in iron meteorites exposed to cosmic ray fluxes in solar space for a million years or more within the past few million years should be easily ...

Notes: [Auszug] The method to be described here is nevertheless a purely chemical one. It has the advantage of high efficiency, and potentially the advantage of general applicability. We believe that the procedure described for actinium and europium can be applied with little modification to the thirty lanthanides ...

Notes: Abstract Thirty-nine states, all except two of which are new, have been observed up to 1535 keV in191Os using the reactions190Os(d,p)191Os,192Os(d, t)191Os with 12 MeV deuterons and magnetic analysis with photographic emulsions of the outgoing particles, and190Os(n, γ)191Os with thermal neutrons and three modes of gamma detection in the energy range from 40 keV to ∼6 MeV. The neutron separation energy was determined as 5758.5±2.0 keV in agreement with the value of the (d, p) reaction. TheQ value for the (d, t) reaction was determined as −1265±15 keV. Spins and parities are assigned for most of the states below 800 keV. The states below 463 keV are shown to be qualitatively but not quantitatively consistent with the expectations of the Nilsson model. Nilsson systematics of the 1/2−: ¦510¦ and 3/2− ¦512¦ orbitals in odd-A Os isotopes with increasing neutron number can be understood in terms of decreasing deformation. Anomalously large (d, p) and (d, t) cross sections populating 5/2− and 3/2− states at 134 and 142 keV, respectively, are explained as a tendency to restore the cross sections expected for a spherical nucleus. Evidence for triaxiality in191Os is observed in the form of a 5/2− state at 273 keV which appears to be a rotational state built on the 9/2− ground state.

Notes: Abstract The nuclear structures of193Ir and195Ir have been studied using the194Pt(t, α) and196Pt(t, α) reactions. Levels up to ∼2MeV in excitation energy were studied with a resolution of ∼13keV (FWHM) and spectroscopic strengths were extracted. The low-lying states in193Ir have been interpreted in terms of both the Nilsson and the rotation-vibration models including Coriolis, particle-vibration and rotation-vibrational couplings. The previously assigned 3/2+ [402], 11/2− [505], 1/2+[400] and 1/2+[411] bands were populated and candidates for the 5/2+ [402] and 7/2+ [404] bandheads were observed. TheK 0 +2 gamma vibration based on the ground state was populated because it is mixed with the 7/2+ [404] state. Surprisingly, there was no significant difference between the stripping and pick-up strengths for the low-lying states in193Ir, suggesting that the equilibrium nuclear shape of193Ir has large overlaps with the shapes of both192Os and194Pt. The nuclear level structure of195Ir appears to be similar to those of the lighter iridium isotopes.

Notes: Abstract The level structure of90Y has been studied using the91Zr(t,α)90Y and89Y(n,γ)90Y reactions. The proton pickup reaction was studied with 17 MeV tritons and a Q3D spectrometer. In the thermal89Y(n, γ)90Y reactionγ-rays from ≈100 to 6,857 keV were observed. In addition to previously known states and configurations, the ten states of theπ(p 3/2)−1 v(d 5/2)1 andπ(f 5/2)−1 v(d 5/2)1 configurations are assigned. Also many other new levels are identified from the (n, γ) data. The 0−state of theπ(f 5/2)−1 v(d 5/2)1 is assigned at 3,130keV. Finite-range shell model calculations suggest that the tensor force is necessary to reproduce the experimentally observed splittings.

Notes: Abstract The microscopic approach for the description of low-lying intrinsic states in deformed odd-odd nuclei is formulated as a generalization of the quasiparticle-phonon model. In comparison with other models used for deformed odd-odd nuclei, the approach proposed in this paper involves vibrational degrees of freedom of the doubly-even core, their coupling to quasiparticle degrees of freedom and then-p interaction between the odd particles. Our model treats all of these modes of nuclear motion on the same microscopic footing. This proposed model is applied to calculate the energies and phonon-quasiparticle structure of the intrinsic states of the odd-odd Ho isotopes withA=160, 162, 164, 166 and 168. It is found that the low-lying intrinsic states in the odd-odd Ho isotopes have only small vibrational components. In general the vibrational states are fragmented over many intrinsic states.

Notes: Abstract Microscopic structures of the proposed parity doublet bands in the odd-proton Z=61151Pm and Z=63153, 155Eu nuclei are examined using the quasiparticle phonon nuclear model Hamiltonian including the residual pairing and multipole-multipole interactions. Octupole correlations between intrinsic nonrotational states are studied to check the suggested assignments of parity doublet partners in these nuclei. We conclude significant octupole correlations between a pair ofK π = 1/2± doublets in each of these nuclei, with somewhat weaker correlations betweenK π = 3/2± bands in both the Eu isotopes. No octupole connection between the lowestK π = 5/2± bands is found; however, significant octupole collectivity, built on the low-lying 5/2− bands, is predicted in the higher-lying 5/2+ bands which contain the 5/2+ [402] fragmented strength.
