Summary The ice nucleation activity of the bacteriumP. syringae CCM 4073 was determined by a drop freezing technique and expressed through the relative freezing nucleus spectrum — fraction of nucleation active cells vs temperature. The spectrum was found to be independent of cell concentration, quite stable within periods of the order of 1 h, and “step-wise”, the steps being most conspicuous at −5°C and −9°C.
