Inverse Attack of Amines to Sulfene with Formation of New Ammonio-SulfobetainesA new reaction is observed in the formation of sulfene from methanesulfonyl chloride and tertiary amines consisting in a dimerisation of the sulfene and an inverse attack of the amines to the ω-C atom of the dimer. The resulting (ammoniomethylsulfinyl)-methanesulfonates 1-4 are characterized spectroscopically. This reaction can serve as a second example for sulfene umpolung under the influence of tertiary amines. With trimethylamine or 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane, 1,3-dithiethane 1,1,3,3-tetraoxide (5) is formed under the same conditions.
Notes:
