Summary For the preservation of tumor cells by deep freezing technics a slow freezing is clearly better than rapid. A fast thawing is better than slow. Both of these findings can be statistically proven by comparing all series under these conditions. As a suspension-medium 0.9% NaCl solution with 2 M glycerol is superior to: hypotonic 0.7% NaCl solution with 2 M glycerol, to 5.3% dextrose with 2 M glycerol, to inactivated non-diluted bovine serum, or preservation without the addition of fluid. Simple directions are described for setting up a tumor bank; its advantages are discussed.

Zusammenfassung Zur Konservierung von Tumorzellen durch Tiefkühlung ist langsames Abkühlen eindeutig besser als schnelles. Schnelles Auftauen ist zweckmäßiger als langsames. Diese beiden Resultate lassen sich bei gemeinsamer Auswertung aller diesbezüglichen Ansätze statistisch sichern. 0,9%ige NaCl-Lösung +2 M Glycerin ist als Suspensionsmedium überlegen: hypotoner 0,7%iger NaCl-Lösung +2 M Glycerin, 5,3% Rohrzuckerlösung +2 M Glycerin, unverdünntem Rinderserum (inaktiviert) oder der Konservierung ohne jeden Flüssigkeitszusatz. Es wird eine einfache Anordnung zur Einrichtung einer Tumorbank beschrieben; ihre Vorteile werden dargelegt.
