Notes: Summary The results of low-temperature magnetic-relaxation experiments in TlBaCaCuO superconductors (2212 and 2223 phase) are reported. They give evidence of a crossover from a thermally activated regime of flux motion to a nonthermally activated one. The magnetic-relaxation rate is found to become temperature independent below ≅7K and ≅3K, for the 2212 and 2223 phase, respectively. Its value compares well with that predicted by the theories of flux motion by quantum tunnelling.

Notes: Summary The effect of the oxygen content on the superconducting properties of BSCCO-2212 epitaxial films has been investigated by means of magnetic measurements. The oxygen content was changed by oxidizing and reducing thermal treatments. With decreasing the oxygen contentT c increases (T c=77 K for annealing in oxygen;T c=84 K in air,T c=95 K in argon), butJ c decreases. Moreover, the results indicate that the position of the irreversibility line and the value ofH 3D–2D crossover field are ruled by the oxygen content through the associated changes in the anisotropy factor γ.

Description / Table of Contents: Riassunto Si riporta un ampio studio delle proprietà magnetiche dell’YBCO.
Notes: Summary An extensive investigation of the magnetic properties of polycrystalline YBCO is reported. A.c. and d.c. susceptibility measurements were carried out. The magnetization was measured at 4.2 K for H ranging from 0 kOe to 50 kOe. The time dependence of the magnetization was measured at various temperatures: an extremely fast decay was found. Such a behaviour was semi-quantitatively explained on the basis of the granular structure of YBCO.

Notes: Summary Polycrystalline YBCO was prepared by a pyrolytic process starting from citrate and tartrate precursors. The effect of the precursor on the superconducting properties was investigated by means of magnetic measurements using a SQUID magnetometer, a Vibrating-Sample Magnetometer and an a.c. susceptometer. The critical temperature is not affected by the type of precursor (T c=85 K for both). On the other hand, the precursor plays an important role on the critical current density, which is found to be an order of magnitude higher in the sample obtained from citrates (J c(77K,H=0)=2.3·104 A/cm2 and 103 A/cm2 for the from-citrate and from-tartrate sample, respectively).

Notes: Summary Epitaxial films of YBa2Cu3O7−x were depositedin situ on LaAlO3 substrates using single-target 90° off-axis sputtering. The films were characterized by magnetization measurements (M vs. T, H), applying the field parallel toc-axis. The observed differences in theT c andJ c values are attributed to the different oxygen content in the superconducting films.

Notes: We report the results of magnetization and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements performed in the temperature range 5–300 K on composites containing iron–oxide nanoparticles encased in polystyrene type resins. After carrying out a suitable field treatment in order to decouple the particles from the matrix, a fraction of the particles freely rotate in response to an applied magnetic field. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract The temperature and magnetic field dependence of the magnetic relaxation rate has been investigated at low temperatures (1.8 〈 T 〈 10 K) on two Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10+δ samples (epitaxial thin film and sintered pellet). The temperature dependence gives evidence of a crossover in the mechanism of vortex motion, from classical thermal activation to quantum tunneling as temperature decreases. The field dependence of the relaxation rate indicates a crossover in the dimensionality of vortices, from three-dimensional flux lines to two-dimensional pancake vortices as field increases. For the thin film, the temperature dependence of the rate has been fitted to the theoretically predicted expressions for finite-temperature enhancement of the quantum rate in different regimes of dissipation. In spite of the similarity of the fits, the estimate of the ratio of Hall to viscous drag terms in the equation of motion indicates that quantum tunneling in this system occurs in an intermediate dissipative regime, where both terms contribute to the motion of vortices.

Notes: Abstract Pinning and dissipative effects have been investigated in Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-CuO sintered compounds by means of DC magnetization and magnetic relaxation measurements. Hysteresis cycles have been performed up to 5 T from 18 to 50 K, and the time decay of the zero field cooled magnetization (M zfc) has been recorded both as a function of field and temperature. The observed temperature dependence of the reduced pinning force and the crossover from a logarithmic to a nonlogarithmic time decay ofM zfc (forT〉50 K), are discussed in relation to the collective pinning and the related extensions to flux creep.

Notes: Abstract The anisotropy of critical current densityJ c in Bi2Ba2CaCu2O8+x single crystals has been investigated as a function both of the temperature and of the applied magnetic field. An anisotropic behavior ofJ c has been found. The decay of the remanent magnetization has been studied for fields applied both parallel and perpendicular to thec axis. A logarithmic behavior was found. A pinning energyU 0 of about 0.01 eV, independent of the direction of the applied field, was obtained.
