Notes: Sensory perception thresholds of implants were much higher than those of natural teeth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biocompatibility of TiO2/HA-biocoated dentalimplants for nerve regeneration using cultured Schwann cells. The nano-TiO2/HA compositebioceramic coating was developed on the surfaces of commercially pure titanium discs by sol-gelroute, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).Using smooth titanium discs as a control, Schwann cell responses to the coating were evaluated bySEM, MTT assay, total protein content and leakage of cytosolic lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)activity. In addition, the amount of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) secreted by Schwanncells was measured by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). It was observed that thecoating had fine crystallites and homogeneous micropores in the diameter of 5-10 um. The cellmorphology, proliferation and function were unaffected. The results indicate that the TiO2/HAbioceramic coating developed on the surface of pure titanium by sol-gel route had goodbiocompatibility with Schwann cells for nerve regeneration around dental implants

Notes: In order to improve the bioactivity of calcium phosphate bioceramics, biphasic HA/β-TCP(BCP) bioceramics were prepared by the microwave sintering and the microwave plasma sintering.Bone-like apatite formation of the resulting samples was investigated in simulated body fluid (SBF). Thesamples were also implanted in dorsal muscles of healthy dogs for 1.5and 3 months. All samples aftertaking out were examined by histological observation. Bone formation in different sintering ways andtemperatures was investigated in details. Better osteoinductivity was found in samples sintered by themicrowave and microwave plasma instead of the conventional furnace, as well as by lower temperature(1050 oC) instead of higher temperature (1150 oC). It accounts for that the increase in degradability ofmaterials sintered by microwave and microwave plasma or lower temperature leads to the better ofbone-like apatite formation and bone formation due to fine grains and lower crystallinity

Notes: In this study, an exclusive sodium titanate (Na2Ti6O13) coating on titanium was fabricatedby sol-gel method and evaluated in vitro. The coating was characterized by SEM and XRD. Thebioactivity of the Na2Ti6O13 coating was evaluated by the biomimetic growth of apatite on its surfaceafter soaked in an acellular simulated body fluid (SBF) for a period of time. In vitro osteoblastsculture was carried out to determine cytocompatibility by the measurement of the proliferation andalkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of the cells. XRD patterns showed that Na2Ti6O13 was wellcrystallized when the coating was heated at 800℃. SEM observation exhibited that the Na2Ti6O13coated titanium had a homogeneous surface without any cracks. After immersion in SBF, the apatitelayer can be formed on the coating. The cells culture showed that the osteoblasts grew well on theNa2Ti6O13 coated titanium. It can be concluded that Na2Ti6O13 coating on titanium obtained bysol-gel method is bioactive

Notes: Resin lenses have substituted for glass lenses to be dominant productions in eyeglasses marketbecause of lightweight, anti-impaction and easy molding. However, the problem existed that the wearresistance of resin lenses was inferior. In order to increase the wear resistance of resin lenses, we coatedDLC film on PC by the method of RF-PCVD, researched the influence of depositing power, gasconcentration, time on the performance of coating, chose the optimum technological parameters. Thecomponent of coating was testified by XPS. The hardness and wear resistance were tested. The resultsshowed that DLC films deposited on PC could improve the wear resistance of material

Notes: Osseointegrated titanium implants have been widely used in clinics for replacement ofmissing teeth. However, sensory perception thresholds of implants were 10 to 100 times higher thanthose of natural teeth. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the ceramic coatinggenerated by microarc oxidation (MAO) on sensory reconstruction around dental implants. TheMAO coating was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM),and scanning probe microscope (SPM). Moreover, the chemical composition was analyzed with anenergy dispersive spectroscope (EDS). Using smooth titanium discs as a control, Schwann cellresponses to the coating were evaluated by SEM, MTT assay, total protein content and leakage ofcytosolic lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity. In addition, the amount of brain-derivedneurotrophic factor (BDNF) secreted by Schwann cells was measured by Enzyme-LinkedImmunosorbent Assay (ELISA). It was observed that the porous coating had separated andhomogeneous micropores in the diameter of 1-2 μm. The concentrations of Ca and P in the layerwere 8.63% and 5.23% respectively. The cell morphology, proliferation and secretion of BDNFwere unaffected. The results indicated that the MAO ceramic coating developed on the surface ofpure titanium had good biocompatibility with Schwann cells for sensory reconstruction arounddental implants

Notes: Purpose - To analyze Chinese consumers in purchasing pirated software; to establish and empirically validate a model for analyzing consumers in software piracy; and to help software companies understand the software piracy issue in China and design anti-piracy strategies. Design/methodology/approach - A research model was established by extending a model used by Ang et al. in studying Singaporeans' purchasing pirated CD. A survey was conducted. Hypotheses were tested through stepwise regressions. An exploratory factor analysis was carried out to analyze Chinese consumers' attitude toward software piracy. Findings - Four personal and social factors were found important in influencing Chinese consumers' attitude toward software piracy, including value consciousness, normality susceptibility, novelty seeking, and collectivism. Five attitude measures, which were important in influencing consumer purchase intention, were identified as reliability of pirated software, recognized social benefits of piracy, functionality of pirated software, risks of purchasing, and perceived legality of purchasing. An exploratory study identified three attitude attributes. Research limitations/implications - As student samples were used, caution needs to be exercised when generalizing findings from this study. Regressions were used to test construct relationships in the model, and the model was not tested as a whole. Practical implications - This research provides an in-depth understanding on Chinese consumers, and the research findings are useful in designing anti-piracy strategies in China. Originality/value - This research is one of the first to examine the Chinese market, which is a focus of piracy problems for the software industries. This research contributes to theory development in developing and testing a model and important constructs, and to industrial practice in providing understanding on Chinese consumers to help design anti-piracy strategies.

Notes: Successful Web-based information systems (WIS) are critical for electronic retailers to attract and retain consumers and deliver business functions and strategy. However, the design and development of a WIS may include many business, technology and user challenges. Understanding and fulfilling the critical requirements of these challenges will determine the success of a WIS commercial application. In this paper, we present an abstract model for WIS design in e-retailing. Unlike previous WIS research, this model offers an integrated and overall view, where four interconnected layers are investigated: business determinants; WIS; business interface; and users/customers. Through our discussion of this model, we provide researchers with a better understanding of WIS issues requiring further investigation, and provide practitioners with a foundation to understand WIS requirements and features for success.

Notes: Electronic commerce has existed in the business-to-business marketplace since the 1970s, in forms such as electronic data interchange (EDI) and electronic funds transfer (EFT). With the emergence of the Internet, and the World Wide Web in particular, electronic commerce entered a new era which opened the door for an electronic business-to-consumer marketplace. Although the retail side of electronic commerce is still in its infancy, the Web medium offers great potential for building the customer-base, promoting sales, and improving after-sales service. Examines the concept of relationship marketing, which has caused a paradigm shift in business-to-business marketing during recent years. Extends the concepts of network marketing to the Web retail marketplace, and develops a market process model for Web retailing that outlines the stages of the relationship building process.

Notes: A 57Fe Mössbauer study of Gd2Fe17−xGaxC2 (x=0−6) has been carried out in order to reveal the effects of Ga substitution on the Fe-sublattice magnetic properties. We have used a simplified fitting model which uses six broadened sextets in the theoretical fit to the spectra of Gd2Fe17−xGaxC2. Our results suggest that the electronic factor plays an important role in determining the Fe magnetism in the substituted R2Fe17-xTx (T=Al,Ga,Si,Ti,...) compounds and their carbides. The average Fe magnetic moment in Gd2Fe17−xGaxC2 varies from 1.99μB for x=0 to 0.94μB for x=5 at room temperature. Therefore, the optimum substituent concentration would be 1≤x≤3 for the substituted R2Fe17−xTx compounds as potential permanent magnet materials. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.
