Notes: Abstract Properties of the new polyaniline containing primer CORRPASSIV™ sealed with two different top coats are characterised and compared with top coated samples using no or a conventional zinc-rich primer. Measurements were made using scanning Kelvin-probe (SKP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), voltammetry and analysis of iron and zinc content in electrolytes for testing. Results are presented and the powerful corrosion protection using the organic metal is shown.

Notes: As an alternative to hot air levelling, a fundamentally new surface finish chemistry and process for solderability preservation of printed circuit boards is described: a pretreatment of the copper followed by an optimized formulation of an immersion tin. The precise and reproducible surface finish formation offers reliable solderability, economic and technical advantages for all kinds of PCBs, even for those with the most modern miniaturized structures. The deposition chemistry and ageing properties of the new Organic Metal/tin surface is discussed, based on electrochemical, wet chemical and electron microscopy studies. The results culminate in an almost complete basic understanding of the tin chemistry and the surface finish performance.

Description / Table of Contents: Circular Dichroism, LXXIII1). - Chiroptical Properties of Cyclic AnhydridesCyclic anhydrides exhibit two to four Cotton effects below 260 nm. Applying qualitative MO theory leads to predictions about the correlation between absolute conformation and signs of the first two CD bands for such anhydrides with an inherently achiral or inherently chiral (C2 symmetry) chromophore. For the first, the two CD bands at longest wavelengths have the same sign and conform with the sector rule of figure 5 with 12 sectors. For the anhydride chromophore with C2 symmetry a helicity rule holds: A negative interplanar angle between the two planes of the C = O groups leads to a negative Cotton effect around 240 nm and to a positive one around 220 nm.

Notes: We analysed by raster electron microscopy Luttinger-polyacetylene as a powder and as a film, both in pristine and (SbF6--electrochemically) doped form. The samples had been intensively washed with MeOH/HCl. One sample had, according to the results of transmission electron microscopy, fiber morphology. All samples show globules as primary structure arranged in clusters (in powder), mono-layers, or chains (in film) (which previously led to “fibril theory”). The primary spherical particles have diameters from 0,02-0,05 μm. The “fibril” sample has very small spherical primary particles, which may develop using low catalyst amounts. Our results support that the conductivity characteristics is governed by phenomena antiparallel to the chain direction (change-transfer-complexes).

Notes: A new dispersion/flocculation phase transition model for the conductivity jump at the critical volume concentration of a conductive phase in an insulating matrix polymer is discussed. New experimental-data including: SEM evaluations of the “seam” structure, excess pyrolytic residue analysis, BET measurements of dependence on conductive phase content, and temperature dependence of conductivity are presented for supporting the new model. Finally a first qualitative step towards a new non-equilibrium thermodynamical description of these dissipative structures will be described.
