Summary Blood cells from healthy Mantoux positiv persons as well as from 24 patients with active tuberculosis were incubated in vitro with phytohemagglutinin (PHA) or tuberculin (PPD). The mean transformation rate and the mitotic response to PHA were significantly lower in patients with tuberculosis. A few days after interruption of therapy the mean mitotic index increased significantly but did not reach the normal limits. The lymphocytes from tuberculous patients and Mantoux-positiv healthy donors transformed to blast-like-cells in the presence of PPD in vitro. This reaction is not depending upon the clinical course of the disease. We found a significant correlation between this test and the delayed hypersensitivity skins reactions with PPD.
Notes:
