Notes: It is shown for the first time that the superconducting YBa2Cu3O7−x phase can be deposited by chemical vapor deposition using the halide precursors YCl3, BaI2, and CuCl as metal sources and an O2/H2O gas mixture. Sintered calcium stabilized zirconia plates were used as substrates. The superconductor was obtained upon deposition without the need for post-annealing. An ideal (001) texture was always found to prevail.

Notes: Zero-field-cooled magnetization measurements on a Cu(10 at.% Mn) spin glass are reported. The relaxation of the magnetization is recorded after specific temperature variations of the sample in the spin-glass phase. The data are discussed within the framework of new domain theories of the spin-glass phase. A qualitative agreement between the theoretical predictions and the experimental results is found. Specifically, empirical support for the theoretical concept overlap length is given.

Notes: New nonequilibrium features of the magnetic susceptibility of spin glasses are reviewed. Experimental observations on the time variation of the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) susceptibilities indicate that the same equilibrium value is obtained after the same characteristic time teq(T). ZFC and ac susceptibility measurements on metallic spin glasses unambiguously reveal the existence of aging of the zero-field spin-glass state. The possibility to probe the aging process from these measurements is outlined. The aging of the zero-field state ends at the characteristic time teq(T) , where a spin-glass state at dynamic equilibrium is retained.

Notes: Abstract: When a spin glass is cooled down, a memory of the cooling process is imprinted in the spin structure. This memory can be disclosed in a continuous heating measurement of the ac-susceptibility. E.g., if a continuous cooling process is intermittently halted during a certain aging time at one or two intermediate temperatures, the trace of the previous stop(s) is recovered when the sample is continuously re-heated [#!uppsalaSaclay!#]. However, heating the sample above the aging temperature, but keeping it below , erases the memory of the thermal history at lower temperatures. We also show that a memory imprinted at a higher temperature can be erased by waiting a long enough time at a lower temperature. Predictions from two complementary spin glass descriptions, a hierarchical phase space model and a real space droplet picture are contested with these memory phenomena and interference effects.

Notes: Abstract: A melt-cast Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 sample showing the paramagnetic Meissner effect (PME) and an ageing phenomenon has been studied by magnetic relaxation and ac-susceptibility experiments. A memory behaviour is observed in the low frequency ac-suscpetibility and in the magnetisation vs. temperature curves measured on heating after certain cooling protocols. It is also found that large enough temperature shifts and positive temperature perturbations cause rejuvenation of the ageing system. All these observations show striking similarities with the ageing behaviour of spin glasses and indicate the existence of a low temperature glassy phase in this PME material.
